Librarians & others have been warning about the existential threat current eBooks markets represent. Today I am delighted to have been invited to attend a Parliamentary rountable w/ @KR21org & @CILIPinfo to address these urgent challenges. Looking forward to a productive session!

The self-proclaimed protectors of free speech in the Trump administration are deleting websites, banning books and cancelling subscriptions. If you’re not already worried, you should be.

Great to see the Semester 2 List Guide out from @mulibrary.bsky.social These tutorials save students time and hassle!

While he seemed quite content, I can’t imagine that @mulibrarycat.bsky.social metal perch is very cosy ? Brrrr

I've created a Starter pack for Irish Libraries & Libraries. It's by no means comprehensive so please let me who I should add to it. And let's try to build a lovely little Irish Library community like we used to have on the other place. go.bsky.app/HZuHx7y

Finland was among the first in Europe to outline a national policy for media literacy in 2013. It is integrated in subjects throughout education from kindergarten. To enhance skills among adults and the elderly, libraries and NGOs are offering courses. www.rte.ie/news/europe/...

It’s beginning to look A Slot like Christmas!

I hope the Senate hears this important message.

It's a good day to be a New Jerseyan. PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy signed a law Monday to prohibit public and school libraries from banning books in the state and to enshrine protections against civil and criminal charges for librarians who comply with the law.

You can’t really see him but take my word that @mulibrarycat.bsky.social is tucked up safely ahead of #StormDarragh Have a nice weekend!

This lovely exhibition complements the festive decorations in the foyer of @maynoothuni.bsky.social library very well! It can also be viewed online. Check out the wonderful advent calendar card at the top of the case in the picture on the left . sway.cloud.microsoft/rxyLuMDYh0O2...

Teaching unions have expressed “serious concerns” after guidelines were issued for project work at Leaving Cert level that would allow artificial intelligence (AI) to be used for at least four subjects – chemistry, biology, physics, and business. www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-41...

Gladdens the heart that the overwhelming majority of Irish voters rejected their message.

I’ve just been having this very conversation with my family. “In my day…” etc etc. 😂

The war monger even attacks his own people.

Word of the day is a favourite, from old Scots. To ‘tartle’ is to hesitate while introducing someone because you have completely forgotten their name.

Musk could use the ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ for self-enrichment

Great article about a public library project in Ireland d5mag.com/deaton-lysag... Kildare Library Service Kildare County Council

Gladdens the heart to see @maynoothuni.bsky.social library looking so festive!

Please vote. Until recently I’d have said that I didn’t care who for as long as you voted. While it is completely up to each person to decide, I urge you to vote for anyone except purveyors of hate, division & bigotry. There’s too much of that in the world already #GE24

Good luck DCU Library and @mcojo.bsky.social

Anyone else find posts going up twice here?

After the joy of last night a difficult start to the day attending the funeral mass of the husband of a dear friend & former colleague who passed away at 52. I don’t usually post personal stuff here but felt compelled to share this reflection from the service. RIP Karl.

Fantastic night at the A Post Irish Book Awards. Congratulations to all of the authors shortlisted and the winners. A wonderful celebration of books, reading and libraries!

The planned law would force social media platforms to take reasonable steps to ensure age-verification protections are in place. Companies could be fined up to A$49.5 million ($32 million) for systemic breaches. www.reuters.com/technology/a...

Someone called this mass exodus from Twitter ‘the fall of the Broman Empire’ and I died laughing. 💀

Job done. Feel for @SouthamptonFC as they fought well but important we take these chances to build the gap!

Word of the day is ‘librocubicularist’: one who loves nothing better than reading in bed. (Not easy to say, but I’m glad to know it exists).

Liverpool fans sitting down to watch MOTD tonight 😂 #cityvsspurs
