The Labour Party was formed 125 years ago on 26-27 Feb 1900 in central London. In 1906 29 Labour MPs were elected. Some detail on the books they read 👇 wp.me/p15p2Q-dDP

How to change a swastika that cant be removed

There is no student experience without staff (academic & professional services)

We are increasingly concerned about the crisis in UK Higher Education. Read our joint statement with @royalhistsoc.bsky.social , History UK and the @histassoc.bsky.social https://buff.ly/4hSg16N #history #skystorians

i firmly believe one of the main messages we should be telling our students about this whole thing is that generative ‘AI’ by definition will *never* have an original idea, and if you use it, neither will *you*

in 8-10 years someone from Silicon Valley is going to invent the university, genuinely unaware that it's been done before

Rather than violate their oath or comply with Musk’s illegal requests, 21 civil service employees resigned today from Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (formerly the United States Digital Service), stating they would not use their technical expertise to dismantle critical public services.

Another joint honours graduate here (Politics and Modern History, and also did modules in Theology and Philosophy). It's so sad that they are being cut in so many places (we just brought some of ours back ...)

NEW: Macron has to interrupt Trump and correct a lie about Europe’s contribution. TRUMP: “Europe is loaning the money to Ukraine. They get their money back." MACRON: “No. We provided real money. To be clear.” Trump clearly not used to get fact-checked live.

O Media Researcher who no archivist loves Why do you invoke chimerical gloves Missing so much and so much? I should like to hear from anyone who has actually been presented with gloves at TNA: please provide details as to the material in question (?old photos? this would be reasonable practice.)

Let's take a very good work of history that happens to have a cool title, option it and then forget the actual history and write the series by pure vibes.

There are some cracking #20s30s #badhistory myths in this interview about the new BBC series #DopeGirls. www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/dop...

There's a poor woman on #Mastermind who seems to not know it's against the clock.

The U.S. joins: Russia North Korea Belarus Sudan Hungary Nicaragua Niger Burundi Eritrea Central African Republic and seven others in voting against the UN resolution for a lasting peace in Ukraine. Shameful. Also embarrassing that the U.S. pressured European sponsors to withdraw it, but failed.

We've created a new Starter Pack of #History institutes and research centres in the UK & Ireland bit.ly/3F3Eo2M Please do share. There will be gaps and recommendations are welcome. We hope this pack helps you keep in touch with work by and for historians in the UK & Ireland #Skystorians.

I know we all love a dose of hopium, especially now. But the take, which I see all across here, that the far right was defeated in Germany tonight because 80% of Germans voted for other parties is very misleading and unhelpful. Understanding this really matters. 🧵

Lovely thread worth reading. I remember a panel at NACBS 2022 called “writing, drawing & reading the body in British letters” with Sarah Fox on “archival intimacies.” I still think about one of the questions she posed: “empathy is a tool for historical work, but what does it do to the historian?”

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia. Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist. Extraordinary.

I’m glad Labour is supporting these workers, who are at risk of losing 400 jobs. Would be nice if they were also supporting university workers, where 10,000 jobs are at risk. In the first week of February alone 1,000 job cuts were announced. Nothing from Labour at all in response.

Not now, Pope. Not now. You're pretty good, as they go.

As an archaeologist I'm asking you...if you're eligible to vote in Germany today, go vote and do what Indiana Jones would do. 🏺💗🏳️‍⚧️ #wählliebe #GegenRechts #fckafd @luilog.bsky.social @prehistoryteller.bsky.social @drnwillburger.bsky.social

BBC News on hour reporting straight that Trump has got rid of military chiefs because ‘they’re too mired in woke culture’ 🤯🤯🤯 Traditional liberal democratic media still hasn’t learned how to report on authoritarians, even now when it’s almost too late
