Just had a fantastic day out @tate.bsky.social #ElectricDreams was not what I was expecting, but it was great to see all the early women pioneers of this medium and collaborations with engineers. The #Leighbowery was epic! I love all the 80's subculture club life, artistic costumes

Creatives! It's the last day to appeal the upcoming AI legislation. The website is here: ipoconsultations.citizenspace.com/ipo/consulta... and the key bit is the section below. TICK OPTION 1. Strengthen copyright! Option 3 - which the government prefer - is no good for us.

Channelling Uri Geller at tea break this afternoon. Never seen this happen just from a spoon being in the mug for too long #cheapspoon #bentoutofshape 😂

I’ve decided I’m going to take over Lancashire, own it, level it, get all its inhabitants to relocate to Wales, Cumbria or wherever (not Yorkshire!), re-name it God’s Own Country, plant millions of acres of rhubarb and build a Betty’s Tea Room on every street corner. That’ll sort the buggers!! 👍 👀

I've enjoyed this so much especially the plague chapter for some reason @profaliceroberts.bsky.social is such a great communicator

Nothing says spring is coming like snowdrops! ❄️🌿 Thanks to @lizstokoe.bsky.social‬ for these beautiful Bodnant Garden shots 📸 Who else is spotting signs of spring?

Farage, Musk and Trump: they crave your attention. Don’t give it to them | Andy Beckett

Looking forward to getting stuck into this #goodreads #museums

Turns out treating education like a business and students like customers doesn't work, who knew? Now unis are in debt, students are in debt, a degree is worth less and costs more than ever, and nobody's happy!

This article depicts a battle ‘within the National Trust’ but RT2021Ltd or Restore Trust is a private company with 4 directors, The National Trust is a 129-year-old charity which has 5.5m members, all of whom have democratic voting rights. www.thetimes.com/article/26a1...

I agree with this so hard. Gen AI is a perfect storm of efficiency as an end in itself (which is what happens when tech bros rule the world, STUDY SOME HUMANITIES YOU COWARDS), *and* it’s not genuine efficiency - it’s effauxcency - because the outcomes are ersatz and shite.

These are exciting times for us here at Shef - a move towards a world free from unsustainable, inequitable Big Deals may just be possible after all

Kim Deal: Nobody Loves You More review – a solo debut worth waiting for

Morning all. This real-time-total-user-account for Bluesky is fairly mesmerising bsky-users.theo.io

So pleased I managed to see this before it finishes at #PitzhangerGallery Grayson Perry: The Vanity of Small Differences

Salford: Britain's 'best new building of 1996' to be demolished

This is a print made from the trunk of the felled Sycamore Gap tree. A perfect cross-section. I ❤️ it.

Looking forward to starting this book #goodreads

Next on the reading pile 📚

“Unless you have a creative education, you don’t have a complete education.” Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy sets out her approach to arts policy in The Guardian today, citing Campaign for the Arts research showing 47% decline in arts GCSE enrolment since 2010. www.theguardian.com/culture/2024...

Open day at Conisborough Castle. Last time I was here I was about 10 😂

Given Bluesky's increasing success & features (and Twitter's increasingly poor leadership), we at CILIP - the library and information association - are going to be growing our activity on here, so please give @cilip.bsky.social a follow and watch this space... #FactsMatter #LibrariesChangeLives

Give this album a listen: Romance open.spotify.com/album/287QQ9... I'm loving this new album, can't stop listening to it ❤️

I fundamentally agree with art for arts sake, but how can creatives financially survive if we reframe for wellbeing and try to step back from the neoliberal creative industry narrative of the past 30 years...#CCI #neoliberalism #artandwellbeing

This is just brilliant! Tough to listen to but really gets to the bottom of what happened. #grenfell www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand...

Had a nice day discovering Ewell Village #bournehall #allthenicethings

Hi Bluesky! I know I'm not here much. It's because I am deep into a new book and planning my Psychopath Night tour, but in the meantime I've started a new endeavor: a substack on nonfiction storytelling. jonronson.substack.com/p/ive-starte...

A day off DIY for cultural relaxation #Tatebritain

Each year our new students are sent a chosen book. This year it is Clive Myrie's memoir 'Everything is Everything' which I am really enjoying, looking forward to his visit in Oct #kubigread

www.kingston.ac.uk/news/article... I missed this! Gus is such an inspiration, so glad that he is part of the KU community

This is the Starter Pack I started a couple of weeks ago, comprising of accounts of UK library & information people. I’m intending to promote it outside of BlueSky soon (once I get round to writing about it), but wanted to just promote on here too, & do another push asking if people want to be added

#RLUKDSF great question about how can we make sure the LLM we use are future proof and how do we monitor them?

#RLUKDSF the legal and copyright issues of generative AI which is an added level of complexity for Librarians to take on.

#RLUKDSF How do we deal with large language models? They require more energy and resources which is bad for the environment.

#RLUKDSF lots of useful applications for Archive and Special Collections using OCR

Thomas Padilla from Internet Archive at #RLUKDSF love the term "Evergreen information literacy" Librarians have always had an important role in evaluating sources, AI is no different.
