I’m one of those dodgy immigrants who came here on a spouse visa and got indefinite leave to remain after 12 months. The incalculable harm I have done to the UK includes dedicating my life to public service, educating thousands of British young people, and paying more tax than I’ll ever get back.

It's #DyingMattersWeek We're all going to do it. Shouldn't we get our minds around what to expect? Here's a 3 min guide. If you like it, please share it. bit.ly/TheosDFB

Glad to be able to represent @quaker.org.uk to say #ThankYouIFNUK for the 37 years of interfaith engagement enabled by the Interfaith Network for the UK before it lost its government funding last year.

sharing today because #Catholic is trending go.bsky.app/7vUjvit

The crisis provoked in the USA by the Trump regime is political and legal/constitutional. It is also moral. As Pope Francis clearly understands (but 'devout Catholic' Trump acolytes clearly do not!) the crisis is also religious, and FUNDAMENTALLY so.

We know that there are many trans and non-binary Friends who may be feeling sad, angry or deeply worried following yesterday’s Supreme Court judgment. Remember that each one of you is unique, precious and a child of God. 🏳️‍⚧️

This will appear in a few future history books as the perfect metaphor for current events....

Food insecurity among pensioners = 3% Pensions go up £470. Food insecurity among people on Universal Credit = 41% Universal Credit goes up £81. 🤷‍♂️

It's one of the greatest things I have ever seen.

Essential reading by @doctoroxford.com "Unless meaningful mental health support is embedded in Streeting’s 10yr NHS plan, the NHS will continue to haemorrhage its greatest asset: dedicated, caring staff." Staff are being utterly failed in the name of cutbacks. www.newstatesman.com/politics/hea...

We condemn Israel's announcement that it is expanding military options and planning to seize territory in Gaza. A partner in Southern Gaza told us that people are terrified by the increasing intensity of air strikes and that food and water are hard to access.

Today we were given keys to our new property! Paul & Catherine wanted to support a local charity so they bought this beautiful spacious house and have leased it to ORL on a long-term peppercorn rent lease. We will use it to provide a home give dignity & safety to four people who are homeless.

'...the percentage of Republican men who agree that women should return to their traditional roles increased from 28 percent in May 2022 to 48 percent in November 2024. Among Republican women, there was an increase from 23 percent to 37 percent.'

My letter in today’s Guardian on last weeks oral evidence sessions for the assisted dying bill - and how they left us with more questions than answers (including a big one)…

Ironic. Executive orders are already limiting religious freedom to follow command of Jesus to stand on the side of the poor, minister to refugee, feed hungry, uphold human dignity & equality. I would say his administration has a bias against any religious freedom that not in line with its ideology

Important letter in today’s Times. 24 leading psychiatrists say assisted dying will harm suicide prevention. It was apparent last week that some committee members believe there’s a clear line between suicidality and a wish for hastened death. These psychiatrists disagree.

Equivalent to repealing the Health and Safety at Work Act in the UK. The Republicans think your employers should be able to kill or maim you without consequences.

In its simplest terms, the apparent demise of #USAID is the result of the world's richest man ending a program that helps millions of poor people. You don't need a Ph.D. in moral theology to see why this is an evil. You can just read Jesus's parables on the rich and the poor.

Update. The Telegraph has now corrected its entirely fabricated claim that 1 in 12 Londoners is an "illegal migrant" and has accepted that this claim was false in *four" separate respects. However, this has not resolved my complaint to IPSO - I will continue to request a front-page correction.

Road casualty stats for the first year of the 20mph speed limit show around 100 fewer killed or seriously injured on 20+30mph roads - with specifically 10 fewer dead Lee Waters, who spearheaded the policy, says it shows it is the most successful road safety policy ever www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

We are of course still waiting for the Telegraph to correct its scaremongering lies about the number of "illegal migrants" in London. The Times and Sun have already done so and the Mail will also but Telegraph is doubling down.

I've now complained to @ipso.co.uk & expect in due course Telegraph will be forced to correct this BS. They couldn’t even get London’s overall population right, let alone migration stats. But what are the "right" numbers? [1/n]

Sorrywhatpardon?

Policy as sycophancy towards a massive narcissist. This is life now.

A quick 🧵 on the data and a couple of other points There is emerging data for 2024 - but so far they’ve only collated nine months of it, so it hasn’t been published. So the latest complete published data is for 2023, and as such is the first collection of its kind.

This example couldn’t illustrate more effectively the costly, inefficient madness of swapping triage by highly trained & skilled GPs with a whole cacophony of unnecessary scans, radiation, appointments & bureaucracy. If this is really Labour’s vision of the future NHS, it’s wildly misguided.

New @ippr.bsky.social report out today by Parth Patel and I looks at how we can modernise our elections, improve turnout, and make participation more equal. 🧵 1/

Some people in recent days have alleged a ‘cover-up’ over the grooming & rape of hundreds of young girls in predominantly northern UK towns, leading to calls for a ‘national’ public inquiry into child sexual exploitation FWIW here’s a non-exhaustive list of inquiries into #CSE in last 12 yrs…

Who is going to break the news to Badenoch there has already been quite a detailed review of grooming gangs carried out by the Home Office? It found, proportionally, the main group responsible were white, British, men. Something which was then ignored in favour of using the term to stoke division.

The, quite horrific, details of the abuses carried out make it very, very, clear that this was about human trafficking, not smuggling. At the very least the Home Secretary should get the distinction right. This isn't semantics, it has serious implications. #r4today 1/ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Have @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social & Rory Stewart just gone & solved the small boats crisis in their latest episode of @restispolitics.bsky.social? Huge if so! So I've looked into it... www.youtube.com/watch?v=toFk...

@alastaircampbell2.bsky.social and Rory Stewart: please give @zoejardiniere.bsky.social ‘s video your attention. Maybe invite her onto your show? She has some very important contributions to make to the discussion on asylum seekers, the small boats ‘problem,’ etc. Thank you.

Here you go everyone! #Art #Edusky Appreciate a repost!

This isn't correct @thetimes.com If you built housing at average newbuild density (31 homes/hectare) across the 1,663km2 of Surrey you'd build 5.1 million homes. That's vastly more than Rayner wants to build on greenbelt.
