This abstract has my mind alternating between “isn’t this just about measurement discrimination and not real ‘discrimination’?” and “maybe there are times when information coarsening can eliminate barriers.”

We streamlined six new DID-like estimators and created this tutorial for implementation in R. yiqingxu.org/packages/fec... Hope you no longer need to spend months figuring out what these estimators are and how to use them.

Across European countries and across European parties, an increasing sense of international cooperation based on necessity rather than ideals, and an increasing sense of competition with the US, China: ecfr.eu/publication/...

MO for Trump admin and supporters: 1. make accusations based on bullshit/exaggerated accounts. 2. pursue wildly overreaching response even with reference to the bullshit. 3. walk back if it negatively affects the stock market.

This is one of the more coherent ways I’ve seen to define “populism”, as a paradoxical wish: seeing yourself as a part of the “non specialist” or “non elite” crowd and then desiring a strong leader who listens to your crowd.

Andrew Natsios, who ran USAID under President George W. Bush and is a lifelong conservative Republican, calls such moves “illegal” and “outrageous.” What Musk and Rubio are doing “is criminal. They can’t abolish the aid program without a vote of Congress.” www.politico.com/news/magazin...

USAID being unlawfully dismantled. DOGE member has closed HQ. New tranche of workers cut off email. Staff tell me, "It is frightening being inside USAID right now. Our checks and balances failed. Congress has abdicated its responsibilities.” And Sec. Rubio has abdicated his.

Some notes on the unfolding USAID saga. The largest current USAID program expenditure is aid to Ukraine, including contributions to multi-donor trust funds administered by the World Bank. 1/5

If you’re in the US and you’d like to know what projects and vital services federal grants currently fund in your state, you can search here: www.usaspending.gov And you can find the contact information for your elected representatives here: www.usa.gov/elected-offi... They need to hear from you.

Insofar as spending freeze hits elementary & secondary public schools, impact will vary by state. NCES has consolidated fiscal data to FY20, which does not include pandemic allocations (with exception of NM & Guam). Here is share of schools revenue from federal funds by state/territory.

Was just discussing with colleagues: federal policies or programs that have no legislative basis, but depend entirely on executive prerogative, can end with executive orders. 1/4

Djokovic like an apple, surprising for its longevity. (Federer was an apricot.)
