A beautiful day for thermal biologists to meet for a cuppa at Matilda Bay.

Less than 4 weeks left to submit an abstract to join our session in Antwerp (deadline 7 March). Oral and poster presentation slots available. @sebiology.bsky.social

At Fowler's Gap Research Station, we could tell how hot it was going to be each day by how close the wildlife was to the house. When I walked in and found a roo in the kitchen, I knew we were in for some extreme temperatures! #WildOz

Registration, accommodation booking, and abstract submission for the upcoming 2025 ZSSA Conference: zssa.co.za/conference/

As part of his PhD on the dietary ecology of meerkats, Walter Jubber carefully examined the diet of meerkats in the Kalahari. Although we like to think they feast on scorpions all the time (like my photo), over 70% of their diet is beetles. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Misconceptions and Set-Points For decades, the concept of a thermoregulatory "set-point" has been a cornerstone of physiological research, yet its definition and application remain surprisingly inconsistent across disciplines. Our recent study, spear-headed by the inimitable Dr. Duncan Mitchell,…

The next in our series on revisiting concepts of thermal physiology, expertly driven by @duncanmitchellwits.bsky.social - what does set-point really mean, how does negative feedback operate? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

A faint but pretty #AuroraAustralis photographed early last Sunday morning in the Perth Hills

#Comet C/2024 G3 Atlas (or at least its tail) is still visible here in the #southernhemisphere. Clearly seen by eye and spectacular with binoculars I enjoyed photographing it over a #saltlake in the WA wheatbelt.

Excited to have our #numbat paper and photo featured in the 2025 @jexpbiol.bsky.social calendar

#Comet C/2024 G3 Atlas from Perth, Western Australia.

3 year #Entomology museum job at the Western Australian Museum. Apply if you ❤️ insects, collections and identifying! 🦟🪰🦗🐜🐝🪲 search.jobs.wa.gov.au/page.php?pag...

I managed to photograph the Jan 1st #AuroraAustralis in Cape Range National Park, near Exmouth, Western Australia. This is 22 deg north, but has beautiful #darkskies.

Yes, they certainly do!

Was lucky enough to be able to watch and photograph a #dugong from coastal cliffs in the #SharkBay #WorldHeritageArea. #mammalwatching #wildoz

Excited to announce that #AusMammSoc2025 will be held in beautiful Toowoomba in June 2025! australianmammals.org.au/conferences/co…

It is the summer solstice. No better way to spend the longest day of the year than enjoying WA's gorgeous coast.

Love #summer in Perth. Enjoyed paddling around on the Mandurah estuary this weekend, watching birds and two species of ray foraging. #thisisWA

Made the most of some beautiful early #summer weather this weekend with a long walk on the #beach then a paddle in the #kayak at Moore River.

A Southern Ocean sunset

I spent some time at #PerthZoo recently updating materials for some of my undergraduate class #fieldtrips. Couldn't resist indulging in some #photography while I was there.

Your #PhD species is always special (especially if you were lucky enough to work on numbats!), so my clever and generous cousin painted this fantastic #numbat for me from one of my photos to hang in my office.

Today we said goodbye to Jacob John, Australia's leading #diatom ecologist and #taxonomist. His scientific expertise will be greatly missed, but so will his kindness and humour. isdr.org/jacob-john-i...

It was wonderful to contribute to #TheWorldsMostExcitingClassroom and the #Dawin2000 voyage with a chat about the thermal biology of #echidnas and #numbats; two unusually diurnal Australian mammals www.youtube.com/watch?v=P48B...
