I think people forget that language isn't a natural phenomenon, it is a collaboratively built tool. Every useful or interesting aspect of LLMs is because they imitate language. Similarly, checklists reduce hospital mistakes but that doesn't make one a doctor

In the Spring of 1864 Twain, while working as a beat reporter for the SF Morning Call, Twain witnessed the murder of a Chinese laborer by a mob that included cops. It radicalized him. He wrote it up, one of the first things he ever authored which he thought deserved to be called “literature”… 2/

1804. Oceans are now Battlefields. In the South China Sea a British convoy worth almost £1bn today is spotted by the French. It should be a massacre. Instead, Commodore Nathanial Dance is about to defeat a French battle squadron using some paint and the most overplayed hand in #navalHistory. /1 🧵

Zuck: the average American has three friends.

Honestly this is just incredible content.

Also, Rubio as SecState and NSA, Patel at the FBI and (formerly) ATF, Musk as CEO of 6 different companies + senior advisor. It could not be clearer that these guys don't actually do these jobs in any meaningful sense

Got hit in the head fairly hard during last night's race, so I look forward to my posting improving in the near future

"Many of his actions are legal" is a phrase that applies equally to Dennis Raider and the sitting president

From what I've seen of the EO, it looks like he doesn't want to deploy the military domestically, he wants to give local cops military hardware and a stack of get-out-of-jail-free cards. IMO, that's way worse

Saw Sinners again last night and I think it was even better this time. One thing I missed the first time: the vampires sing folk songs as a group but Slim, Sammy and Pearline all do original numbers. This has definitely affected my interpretation

When people don't believe W40k and Judge Dredd are satire, this is why.

Looking at RC transmitters and only seeing knockoffs on Amazon, go to the brand's website and they have an American flag png over a notice that all shipping to the US is suspended

Celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with a quote and an image: I grant I never saw a goddess go; My mistress, when she walks, goes upon the ground. And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare As any she belied with false compare.

You might not be able to buy indulgences anymore, but you can buy short fiction from our next pope and that's almost the same thing.

'A second group chat has hit the Pentagon' works a little too well

Two thoughts after seeing sinners: 1) That was the best movie I've seen in a long time 2) If you told me it was a loose adaptation of From Dusk till Dawn, Id believe you

This is insane. Among others, this would put an expiration date on the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, and the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. If this stands the President can effectively veto laws decades after they are enacted

When Clive Barker was working on the MUMMY remake for Universal in the early '90s, he had a trans character in the script, and when the studio vetoed it, he basically said "I really can't stress how much I don't need to fucking make THE MUMMY" and left.

Barker remains the GOAT
