“Is this… Heaven?” My latest article in Woods-N-Water News delves into the feeling… vision… apparition?… I sometimes get from the outdoors. I’ve been a freelance contributor to Woods-N-Water News since 2007. #flyfishing #outdoorwriting

A couple No. 10 hair wing Roberts Yellow Drakes using deer hair for the body and wings from my doe. #flytying #flyfishing #dryflies #classicmichiganflies

Having some fun with my new grizzly/furnace hackle. I try to keep patterns consistent for sale, but like to experiment and vary patterns for my own box. Some Adams and Borcher’s Drake and combined variations. #flytying #dryfly #flyfishing

Early birthday present to myself from Old Au Sable Fly Shop with the proceeds of my last batch of flies. Pretty stoked about this saddle. Kinda had a notion I might get a good saddle when I walked in, but when I saw this one, I wasn’t walking out without it. #flytying

Had an awesome time at the Central Lake Ice Tournament today. Saw my buddy Jay and donated a dozen trout flies for the door prizes, in which I also won a delicious pie from King Orchards for desert with my aunts and uncles and cousins. What a great event for Central Lake! #icefishing #flytying

Restocked Bachmann’s Store in Central Lake! New store display, 6 each of 21 trout patterns and 5 northern pike/musky patterns, with stickers and a printed Fly Guide for reference to each pattern. Stock was getting real low with just a few Elk Hair Caddis and Clousers left. #flytying #flyfishing

No. 8 Beamon’s Ghost for brookies.

The Partridge and Orange. “We then have the Orange-fly, the dubbing of orange wool, and the wing of a black feather”. - Piscator ( Charles Cotton ) The Compleat Angler, Part II, published in 1676 (My edition in 1861). #flyfishing #flytying #compleatangler

Brookie Bufords - Muddler Minnows are definitely my favorite brookie streamer. #flytying #flyfishing

1/2 dozen No. 12 Adams because I’m from northern Michigan & a little something I’m working on for @bachmannstore1942 . #flytying #flyfishing #adamsfly

3/0 7” McNally’s Magnum in classic red/white. #pikeonthefly #pikefly #flytying #flyfishing

1/2 dozen No. 14 Elk Hair Caddis. 60% of the time, it works all the time. #flytying #flyday #dryfly #flyfishing

Ted Williams on Objective Advocacy: “The kind of reporting [Mike] Frome did was harder and served the reader better. Rather than recycle flack babble and press releases, he dug out the real story...” #flyfishing #writing

When work takes you to a northern Michigan trout river for the day, you have to wet a line before you hit the road home! No fish caught but what a scene! #flyfishing

Sneak peak at the new display for Bachmann’s Store in Central Lake, Michigan: a repurposed and refinished vintage typeset printer drawer. I’ll be stocking the first batch of 2025 flies in a few weeks, with a few bins left to fill yet. #flyfishing #northernmichigan #centrallakemichigan

1/2 dozen No. 10 Borchers Drake Parachutes. The belly hair from my doe for parachute posts is almost as good as the venison steaks. Almost. I love a classic pattern using moose mane, turkey tail fibers, and deer hair, in an era when everything seems plastic and foam. #flytying #flyfishing

1/2 dozen No. 6 Roberts Yellow Drake. Deer hair wing post from my doe. A classic Michigan pattern for the hex originally tied by Clarence Roberts, a Michigan game warden in the 1950s, per Jon Osborn’s “Classic Michigan Flies.” #flytying #flyfishing

Bought a copy of Ann Miller’s Pocketguide to Upper Midwest Hatches and tied up a few flies to follow along with it: No. 16 Blue Wing Olive Quill, No. 16 Parachute Borcher’s Drake, classic No. 14 Hendrickson, No. 12 Parachute Borcher’s Drake, and No. 16 Roberts Yellow Drake. #flytying #flyfishing

My bad habit is collecting vintage #flyfishing gear. Cool old Cortland trout net, not sure of the year. My first fly rod was a Cortland CL Graphite combo so I have a soft spot for the brand.

Roberts Yellow Drake, Size 6. Subbed moose mane for pheasant tail fibers on the tail, and grizzly instead of brown hackle. Deer hair body and wing post from my doe. A Michigan classic. #flytying #flyfishing

A couple Quill Gordons and a Dark Hendrickson tonight, all No. 14. #flytying #flyfishing #dryfly
