This AM I have re-posted stories from WaPo, the NYT and NPR. The NYT story has multiple bylines and is a thorough factual debunking of an official government communication. You can argue about headlines and stay mad about past errors or you can realize institutional journalists are doing the work.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

Apple Intelligence’s commitment to writing incomprehensible summaries is unparalleled

Btw, where’d we end up on the metaverse?

one thing i’m stuck on is this idea that “masculine” energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.

In my first story of 2025, I spoke with Northeastern University professors Eugene Smotkin and Laura Kuhl about the recent power outage in Puerto Rico earlier this week that left more than a million residents without power. news.northeastern.edu/2025/01/03/p...

buying a used pedal from a guy on eBay is the most “dudes rock” you can get

This is an insane request from Paxton. Get ready for 4 years of nonstop assaults on the press like this.

New: Texas AG Ken Paxton has subpoenaed 404 Media for confidential reporting about an internal Google privacy incident database we published in June. If Paxton wants the database, he can get it directly from Google. Our lawyers have formally objected to the subpoena: www.404media.co/404-media-ob...

I would use the Notes app a lot more if it wasn’t so ugly.

Things are changing at The Verge, and we need your help. Let's talk about that.

the internet sucks in part because no one makes their own personal websites anymore aftermath.site/website-musk...

Musk admitted X throttles links, and Threads is only a little better. But social media's quiet war on links has been going on for years. I wrote about how big tech has been draining the open web's lifeblood and giving us "news influencers" instead of the news. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

We want Bluesky to be a great home for journalists, publishers, and creators. Unlike other platforms, we don't de-promote your links. Post all the links you want — Bluesky is a lobby to the open web.

Traffic from Bluesky to @bostonglobe.com is already 3x that of Threads, and we are seeing 4.5x the conversions to paying digital subscribers.

Thanks @scire.bsky.social and @niemanlab.org for talking to me about Sill! I'm really excited about the future of the platform! www.niemanlab.org/2024/11/reme...

Hi Bluesky! I write about interesting stuff happening at Northeastern University, including research! Here is one of my most recent pieces. Please check it out! news.northeastern.edu/2024/11/15/u...

It’s so nice to be at the stage of a lifetime of a platform when everyone mostly agrees the people running it are working hard and doing a good job. Let’s enjoy that while we can!

In this digital comic, Kristen Radtke explores the history of baby tech — the tools and devices that allow parents to surveil their newborns.

I wrote about the great re-buttonization of tech and how we have reached peak touchscreen

With a fully remote team of just 20 employees, Bluesky has surpassed 20 million users in its first year since opening to the public and is stealing thunder from rivals hundreds of times its size. At a time when conventional wisdom among bosses is that workers must be in-person to be productive.

Democrats have the majority for less than two more months. I'll be using every second to push for passage of my PRESS Act to protect journalists from government spying and surveillance.

Here's my best effort to work out why Bluesky blew up over the weekend. Much more than Threads, it's a network that knows what it's *for* www.platformer.news/bluesky-post...

Request to beef up 2FA / auth options for all the journalists joining this app @jay.bsky.team -- and to push up encrypted DMs. I sense these things will be important over the next four years!

Reintroducing myself to Bluesky with a picture of my parents’ puppy. Enjoy.

Love what google is up to these days

Elon Musk has risked X being banned in Brazil in the name of "free speech." But as usual when he uses those words, there's a lot more to the story www.platformer.news/elon-musk-x-...
