“Food is now rotting near starving people”.

Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990. One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS. #LGBTplusHistoryMonth

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

"This is not a fight we can afford to lose." No, because losing literally means millions of dead people. My fellow Americans, it is time to muster your courage and speak up.

It’s not only that AOC knows how modern media works better than anyone else in Congress. It’s that she’s braver too. This is an example of both.

This was a hard one to condense into four panels

True story: when my older boys were little, they both got whooping cough even though they were vaccinated. It was bad. We asked the pediatrician what would’ve happened if they hadn’t been vaccinated. They would’ve died, he said. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

House Republicans are planning at least $880 Billion in cuts to Medicaid, to pay for tax cuts for Musk and his billionaire buddies. We have to mobilize, now.

What I find almost more significant about this than the actual story itself is that it’s a leak. From the NSA. The NSA does not usually do a whole lot of leaking. Somebody is Pissed. Off.

QUID PRO QUO: Eric Adams sold out NYC to save himself. The DOJ is dropping his corruption case after he cozied up to Trump. This is blatant quid pro quo, and we should all be furious. Stay loud. Stay angry. We won’t forget. youtube.com/shorts/we1pu...

This post is making me fondly remember going through the joke books at the library. I was also a kid who would read the dictionary and grab a volume of the encyclopedia for fun, in between learning to love mysteries and art. Crafts. Cooking. Music.

The more you know...

Trump's CFPB, now under the command of billionaire hedge fund manager Scott Bessent, has halted the Biden admin's rule to ban medical bills from credit reports. It's been estimated that the rule would help improve the credit scores of 15 million people. Some populist, huh?

Worked hard on this, and I hope it will be a useful resource for many. A beginner’s guide to Long COVID, with a discussion of mechanisms: www.thegauntlet.news/p/what-is-lo...

My god, we aren't letting USAID-funded clinical trials remove temporary experimental medical devices left inside of participants? Or providing any monitoring or care for participants who were given an experimental drug the day before the shutdown? Evil is right.

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

“…no amount of posting or passive info consumption is going to substitute the hard, unsexy work of organizing” I would argue that sick & disabled folks have used social media to organize and mobilize. Some of us can’t protest in the streets or meet in person but we made a difference

Almost 20 years ago, a doctor on TV was asked, "Isn't 12 a little early for a kid to be deciding to transition?" And her response was, "It's old enough for them to decide that it's not worth living anymore if they can't." That was the only argument I ever needed to hear about gender affirming care.

I used to work for an elected official as the person who answered their emails. I can tell you from personal experience, if even twenty or thirty people all call an official in a day, they start panicking. This stuff does help.

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance. Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.

In November, after the election results led to a wave of shock and despair in the trans community that overwhelmed hotlines and stunned therapists, Assigned put together the Stay With Us package. www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...

Mutual aid is not just a disaster response, it’s a way of caring for one another, building stronger communities, and preparing for whatever life may throw at us next. It’s a labor of love—and a way of life. I put together a reading list (and words of advice) for LitHub: lithub.com/we-only-have...

Great advice from @mspackyetti.bsky.social

When social media sites tell you moderation has limits I want you to know there was a time when you could only find the worst people on obscure forums created for being offensive because everywhere else moderated them into those corners.

my biggest takeaway from the insurance guy thing is that people want medicare-for-all and it would be nice if there was a political party that wasnt scared to fight for it
