This is my oldest surviving project. It got me my highest exam result at school more than 40 years ago and now sits in my mother's lounge. The turned items on top are more recent, but still nearly 20 years old. I returned to woodturning during lockdown & will post more recent items after this.

I made this quite a long time ago when I had access to a full-size workshop, as a present for one of my nephews. I don't have space for large-scale projects now, but I'm still proud of how this turned out.

When I was told my granddaughter would like a fairy house for her birthday, I was told to use my imagination. I started with an Elm branch I found and just took it from there. I don't know whether fairies like Swarovski crystal chandeliers or lights programmed from their smartphones, but I hope so.

I decided to post a few of the things I've made, mostly as presents, to try to encourage me to make a few more.

Just a happy post to show where I ate Christmas dinner and the rain over the islands making the view an amazing contrasting scene

Could this be the same Wes Streeting as is overwhelmingly funded by private healthcare interests? Reader, it could. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

The UK has a bed capacity problem Not only has it fewer hospital beds but unlike countries with similar levels like Sweden it has fewer facilities in the community Worse both hospital bed capacity & community bed capacity has fallen Failure @NHSEngland www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resource/bui...

Had cooled to 26 degrees in Bangkok at 00:05 on Jan 2nd, 13 hours later, 4 degrees at Heathrow! Can I go back yet please

I booked a holiday in Thailand over Christmas to celebrate not having been in hospital and actually felt quite well this year. Tonight I’m back in A&E, completely different, new issue but I have to have an op tomorrow, & supposed to fly on Thursday.

Shout it louder 👏🏻

The fiction of the rule of law applying equally to all. Duchy of Cornwall doesn't pay inheritance, corporation and capital gains tax even though it trades. P&O Ferries knowingly violated employment law when sacking 800 workers. Faced no action from govt. leftfootforward.org/2024/11/what...

1. Consent in our pseudo-democracies is strained at the best of times, but it hangs on the belief that there is some kind of justice: through inquiries, tribunals, sometimes even the law, powerful people who commit crimes against us will one day be held to account. But what if this no longer works?🧵

Compared with 2010 - average wages down 2% - the richest 10% took 37% of all GDP growth - the poorest took 2% - this income gap grew by 50% People don't work because they know their work only rewards the rich. But look: yet more stick. Carrot remains unused.🧵 www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
