At Stockholm University, we are now starting a 2-year Master’s programme in Evolutionary Genomics! Topics include population genetics, phylogenetics, molecular & genome evolution, DNA sequencing, bioinformatics, and palaeogenetics. Please spread the word! www.su.se/english/sear...

Researchers spend approximately 45% of their time on administrative activities related to #grants rather than actual #research. The current #competition in research #funding has significant drawbacks; evidence-based improvements of the funding system are required: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

This is a catastrophe. While Finland has downgraded the MDPI and Frontiers journals to level 0 (meaning these publications are not recognized for research evaluation purposes), Germany has signed an agreement to promote publications in MDPI journals.

Clive Wynne and I wrote a review about dogs, and how their great potential as a model species in behavioral ecology and evolution is overlooked. Several misconceptions have likely led to this and I will break them down in a thread...1/6 🧪 🐶 🦊 🌍 #AcademicSky www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

"Publishers selling papers to train AIs" was perhaps not the direction I was hoping to see the already questionable scientific publishing scheme take 🧪 🌍 #AcademicSky #WomenInSTEM www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Brilliant paper demonstrating that dingoes represent a unique canid lineage that contrary to popular belief is not hybridized with dogs. Dingoes should be protected as the unique animals they are, not persecuted. academic.oup.com/evlett/artic... 🧪🌍🦊🐶 #AcademicSky

It’s slim pickings out there alright…😅 🧪 #AcademicSky #WomenInSTEM

Our husky had surgery this week and the body she needs to wear to prevent her from licking her stitches makes her look like Steve Jobs in his iconic turtleneck sweaters. She would like to talk to you about the latest Apple products… 🐶 🐕 #DogsOfBluesky #Dogs #HouseHusky #JanisDog

Earlier this year, I received news that fake peer reviews were allegedly being submitted impersonating me and approximately six others I shared my story with Science to, hopefully, reduce the chance of this kind of breach happening again www.science.org/content/arti...

I have seen many good, well-argued initiatives by various researchers to rebut this decision and also signed some petitions myself. Hopefully there is still time to revert this degradation of conservation efforts and in turn biodiversity goals. 🧪 🌍 🦊 #AcademicSky

Harsh! …but here’s to the importance of negative results. 🧪🌍#AcademicSky

Insightful new paper on the evolutionary consequences of indirect genetic effects and how they especially affect behavioural traits. academic.oup.com/evlett/advan... 🧪🌍 #HigherEd #WomenInSTEM #AcademicSky

Amazing opportunities at Stockholm University, Sweden! Assistant professorships in biodiversity w/focus on processes previously difficult to study, but where recent advances provide new opportunities. su.varbi.com/en/what:job/... 🌍🧪 #AcademicSky #HigherEd #WomeninSTEM #EcoECRcareer #ScienceJobs

Starter packs are genius, but I was surprised there wasn't a list of them for people to find. So I built it: blueskydirectory.com/starter-pack... The website monitors the packs being shared and adds the ones it finds to the database. Missed your stater pack? Message me and I'll get it added.

Another job opportunity in Europe! 3+3 year position equivalent of Assistant professor at the Department of Animal Behaviour at Bielefeld University, Germany. Experience with genetic and genomic approaches an advantage. 🌍🧪 #AcademicSky #HigherEd #WomeninSTEM #EcoECRcareer #ScienceJobs

Doing good science is 90% finding a science buddy to constantly talk to about the project.

In the light of recent events you might be looking for positions in say...Europe? Here is one on applied animal population ecology in Switzerland that aims to guide biodiversity conservation. www.unine.ch/files/live/s... 🌍🧪 #AcademicSky #HigherEd #WomeninSTEM #EcoECRCareer

When you (finally) get a grant after waiting for a decision for 9 months, reread your long forgotten proposal, and realize what you actually have to do now... 🌍🧪 #AcademicSky #HigherEd #WomeninSTEM

Happiness is when you bring out the hiking doggy backpack and your 10-year old husky bounces off the walls from excitement. We put less weight in her backpack these days (don’t tell her), but she’s still our best adventure buddy. Enjoy your dogs while you can ❤️

Great night at Pint of Science in Stockholm, Sweden! Our colleagues from Stockholm University told us about butterflies, mercury pollution and sexual selection. Oh, and we won the quiz 😀 Yay science! 🌍🧪 #AcademicSky #HigherEd #WomeninSTEM

The brutality of writing 3 different grant applications in 4 weeks, making all the deadlines (barely alive), being super proud of yourself…and then getting the first rejection the day after your last submission. Academia is tough, be kind to one another. 🌍🧪 #AcademicSky #HigherEd #WomeninSTEM

Me thinking about all the exciting ideas I have for research projects vs me actually having to finish them up 2 days before the grant deadlines (yes, plural)... 🌍🧪 #AcademicSky #HigherEd #WomeninSTEM
