Maybe trying to write a VSCode extension at 1 in the morning was the best use of my time, but I now have another half-finished project, so there's that

This is the greatest website that's still in existence. It has all the trademarks are a top-tier site: - Angelfire - Under Construction Banner - Ultra niche topic - Incomplete www.angelfire.com/la2/falconry...

Was getting a really cryptic AWS error — OpenAI, Claude, & Gemini couldn't solve it. What did solve it you ask? A 2 year old Stack Overflow answer! Humanity persists another day

The worst part of a cold is that my body craves tea and not coffee. It's like my immune system doesn't even know me

The headaches that LLMs have caused in the classroom are…more than counterbalanced by what they can offer as tools for research and self-directed learning. For this reason, I’m now even more optimistic about…AI tools for historical research resobscura.substack.com/p/the-leadin...

What makes doing transcription with LLMs always feel a little frustrating is that transcription is either right or wrong (with caveats). Translations can be on on a spectrum, and so can asking questions about an image. But transcription can't be.

The flexibility of LLMs over OCR is just amazing. I really want to believe that OCR is better, but I just don't know if the tools can keep pace

I'm amazed at how many Hebrew grammars will say "such and such is a rule" and then provide either no examples or examples that aren't in the Bible!

trusting a [OpenAI and Google] to not use your data may be a bit like asking a cookie monster to guard the cookie jar. jcuenod.github.io/bibletech/20...

Any good tips out there for using #ai to transcribe documents? In some ways, I'm blown away by the results and in some ways, underwhelmed

This looks like an interesting read www.cambridge.org/us/universit...

I started an amazing new job in December — working in an academic library integrating AI systems. It's grant funded… I still have my job, but these past few days have been more than little nerve-racking

So what exactly was a priest in Ancient Israel? I never realized David’s sons are priests. Was there a priesthood separate from the Levitical one? www.sefaria.org/II_Samuel.8....

So what's up with Samuel? He's a prophet, but also a priest? He's definitely not a Levite, and DEFINITELY not a king.

Never noticed how many doublets are in David's rise to power

Any simple birthday ideas for a man with a toddler?

Hebrew nerds! I need examples of a hiriq and qibbuts in accented syllables. So far I have דָּוִד and צַדִּקִים (I Kings 2:32). How would I even search for such a thing?

So in an attempt to call about an unemployment claim, there were no available representatives…and then the call was ended. No waiting. No callback. Just try again and hope

Watch out! There's a new church of toxic masculinity and it's been around for two millennia! www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025...

Experimenting with LLMs to transcribe, translate, and describe texts in images (i.e. manuscripts) Given the non-deterministic outcomes of the models, it's very hard to know if issues arise b/c of the prompt, the model, or the settings. Promising results so far though

I feel seen

Alright, it's a new year so I'm gonna give this app a try! --- A bit about me: - Currently integrating AI into search & discovery at Northwestern University - Did some work on Hebrew, but now mostly maintain an app for transliteration - Hoping to read more Hebrew and play more banjo this year 🪕
