There's something that @adriennemareebrown.bsky.social regularly says which is that you don't need to live in someone else's imagination. I think that it's so important to hold on to this. Work to create the world YOU want to live in rather than to succumb to the one designed by your enemy.

I have found one way to reclaim a little power over supervillains is the hotdog hat. It's not much, but it's something!

I have work to get to today. Before heading offline, I want to share again that we made a workbook for Let This Radicalize You and if you look on pp. 100-109, you will find a list of countless organizing resources: books, articles, manuals, podcasts etc... It's all there to use.

the most frustrating thing about the current infiltration of genAI into everything is the general attitude that has normalised “it works/is not harmful until I see clear evidence otherwise”. it's exhausting

"Part of what makes access to technology so appealing is that it offers a way to address inequality among minoritized peoples without having to identify or name the racism and structural oppression that shape the life chances of all people." - Roderic Crooks in "Access Is Capture"

👇 Anyone can use this and add to it. If you’ve published or posted or podded lately, please add your stuff or stuff from others that you think fits here: #datacenters

"If universities don’t start asking harder questions about AI’s real value, they’ll keep spending money they don’t have on tools their students don’t need—while real educational challenges go unresolved."

I'm working on my dissertation today & reviewing a curriculum that I helped to design & then taught this summer on AI in education, surveillance, & social media. I thought I'd share this lesson on exploring AI & student monitoring software, online proctoring, & weapons detection. 🧵 edushare.ing/3s

On the century-long fantasy of replacing teachers with machines, and the utter contempt for people it demonstrates to be touting this vision right now 2ndbreakfast.audreywatters.com/automated-co...

"Instead, to advance justice, we must radically transform not just the technology itself, but our ideas about it, and develop it from the bottom up, from the perspectives of those who stand the most risk of being harmed."

"AI is in its empire era. That feels indisputable to me. When Vance and the industry leaders like Sam Altman or Elon Musk or the DOGE lieutenants talk about 'AI', they are hardly talking about innovation anymore, they are talking about a project whose aim is to consolidate as much power as possible"

Last week, Senior Associate @clarenceokoh.bsky.social spoke at "ICE & Educators: How to care for undocumented students and staff" on protecting immigrant youth & families from school surveillance. Shift Press' event page has tons of resources and a recording of the event - check it out!

TIL that not only does MagicSchool reproduce the myth that AI is magic but the company’s edu-influencer program uses a settler metaphor to “envision a future where MagicSchool AI Pioneers come together to shape what's possible.”

I'm excited to talk about @civicsoftech.bsky.social at tomorrow's Kawartha Pedagogy Without Borders: New Frontiers of Teaching and Technology conference. Thanks to @greeneterry.bsky.social for the invite! Preview: we'll open the session by reflecting on an evergreen @hypervisible.bsky.social quote:

I spoke to them regarding this first confirmation of commercial foundation models being directly used in warfare and the implications of using highly error-prone AI for life or death determinations apnews.com/article/isra...
