Remarkable assessment by an incoming German chancellor. “for me it is an absolute priority to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible, so that we achieve independence from the US, step by step.” www.dw.com/en/german-el...

The blue and yellow of Ukraine. The colours of resistance against imperialism. On the eve of this grim anniversary, they adorn our building as a symbol of our unflinching support for the Ukrainian people. Our neighbours, partners, and future EU members.

When they tell you who they are, believe them. In the Financial Times, not known as the organ of the "woke left."

Feels timely to reshare this from from the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation. World leaders lay candles, in silence until spontaneous applause greeted Zelenskyy. Those there knew he is fighting the 21st century’s Nazis. 20 days on, a US regime has sided with them. What utter darkness.

My warmest greetings go out to the wonderful people who built their careers sniffing out “Ukrainian Nazis” under every stone in Ukraine for tasty headlines that fueled Russian war propaganda on this-is-why-Ukraine-must-be-dealt-with, only to get Nazi salutes normalized in their own country.

Slava Ukraini. Vive l'Europe.

Be not afraid The UK’s GDP is 50% bigger than Russia’s and GDP per capita three times as great (as with most EU countries). The economic power of the EU alone (without the UK) is EIGHT times larger than Russia. The EU is a superpower. Russia is not. And should not be treated like one

A dictatorship hosting another dictatorship to negotiate with an aspiring dictatorship about the future of a democracy that’s not represented.

The world is on fire and Kemi Badenoch is giving a speech to a Tory think tank in which she says that "as the world becomes more complicated" it is "pronouns and DEI" that are "the real poison in our society". Sunak has given full support to Starmer on Ukraine. She still has not responded.

The PM is absolutely right when it comes to the deployment of British troops in Ukraine to uphold any peace deal and deter Putin. The Government must look at reversing the Conservatives' 10k troop cuts asap.

This could be a masterstroke. He is an intelligent man used to evaluating complex issues, he has a massive majority in parliament and after the "Putin poisonings" here, our security services will understand the threat better than anyone. All that flying around to meet leaders looks so smart now.

An extraordinary record breaking morning in #running - speed and endurance. Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo smashes the half marathon record in Barcelona. And then literally half a world away, Belgian dentist Karel Sabbe obliterates the record on the 3000 km + Te Araroa trail in Bluff, New Zealand. 🤯🤯

What a beauty of a mini thread. The old place must have been absolutely rocking last night 😄. Thanks @vappu.bsky.social for posting it. #COYRS

An acute sense of dissatisfaction with my #parkrun time at Rutland Water this morning. An :04. 2 of the remaining 3 numbers I need to complete the Stopwatch Bingo challenge are :03 and :05. If only.....😬

Good man, that man

SitRep - 13/02/25 - Is The US leaving Ukraine out in the cold? An overview of the daily events in Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It seems like the US prefers talking to Putin, and the EU is increasingly worried about this. A day full of diplomatic statements. REPOST=appreciated 1/X

The @originstorypodcast.bsky.social will no longer be posting on X. We've left this message up as our final tweet.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen now holds the world record in the… 2000m — 4:43.13 3000m — 7:17.55 2 miles — 7:54.10 1500m indoors — 3:29.63 Mile indoors — 3:45.14 When asked where this one sits among them, here’s what he had to say ⬇️

Just 4 days before Jakob says, "World record? Thanks for keeping it warm for me, Yared. But they are all mine."

I'm a big believer in the principle of Occam's Razor in explaining the world, and by this maxim you would suggest the White House is deliberately acting in the interests of Putin's criminal regime. Sickening.

Ukraine has fought too hard for its freedom, only to have its future dictated by Putin and Trump behind closed doors. Any peace must guarantee Ukraine’s sovereignty and security on terms acceptable to Ukrainians, not just to Moscow and Mar-a-Lago.

🇺🇸 The White House says Trump has not set conditions for a possible meeting with Putin, including troop withdrawals from Ukraine. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated she was unaware of any conditions but would provide details if they exist.

Given Trump likes to portray himself as a hard man in a deal, this reveals which side he's on: Russia's.

“I’m here today to directly and unambiguously express that stark strategic realities prevent the United States from being the primary guarantor of security in Europe.” US Secretary of Defence, February 12, 2025. Everything changed today.

Karel Sabbe has a history of ultra-ultra endurance running challenge completions. He looks set to take the 49 day record on the N-S Te Araroa trail in 🇳🇿 to a totally new level in less than a weeks time. Tracker: live.adventuretracking.be/te-araroa

On this day five years ago, the first #COVID19 case in London was confirmed. We will never forget all those who lost their lives during the pandemic 💚

This rare Grand Canyon century plant (A. phillipsiana) is only found in 5 places in the Grand Canyon. It is found near archaeological sites such as roasting pits. Botanists believe it was cultivated by ancestral people for food, fiber, medicine & alcohol #GrandCanyon #parkchat #appreciatepubliclands
