Surely it is only by talking we can make progress by understanding each other better and building trust. We all have to be open to changing our minds even if it seems unlikely now. Otherwise we may as well just stop all engagement on here and elsewhere.

We too hate the smoke issues you are facing and that is why we have developed stoves that are solving this issue. We are willing to and trying to have respectful dialogue with you, but unfortunately I don't think we are succeeding! Please do get in touch again if and when you are ready.

These detailed discussions are not really best managed by us on social media! As we have said we are willing to arrange a meeting to discuss these things in detail...

We are Charnwood! - Our MD is the non-exec vice-chair of the SIA as a manufacturing member, but the Defra discussions would normally be handled by the SIA executive team.

Sorry we thought you were referring to the latest release. Certainly worth discussing in detail.

You really don't have to meet us! The offer is there, but totally understand if you would rather not. We are just trying to be helpful.

Unfortunately we have no sway with Defra.
Interesting per user question... not sure we have enough data to say partly because domestic combustion covers all burning inside and out. Certainly worth discussing this if we meet.

We can all play the yes or no game, but if we are honest we know things are much more nuanced. Which is why we are happy to meet and discuss. Realise trust is an issue, but if these discussions are to achieve anything we have to put these trust-issues aside and give it a go.

We understand that you are angry, and appreciate your reasons, but our offer is genuine and what you describe isn't our style, which is why we take time to engage on here. Happy to meet you and hopefully from there we can build some trust.

Not at all - we are happy to discuss and in fact we have even offered to meet with you - the offer is still open. We just want it to be helpful to you, and if so we are happy to keep engaging. We take seriously your concerns which is why we are developing products that we hope will help.

On separate issue what did you think about this? Don't want to bombard you if not helpful...

You ask us a good question, but we disagree with your answer! As our article discusses we should look at the whole picture and extraction of gas is very problematic. With all heating we are balancing pros and cons and wood burning is no exception.
comment in response to
post
Think we will have to disagree here! We passionately believe that wood heating has many positive benefits and we are committed to developing products which enhance these benefits while minimising the downsides. Take a look at this: www.charnwood.com/news/out-of-...

2/2 We know one person has blocked us because she’s got upset and that is not our intention and is sad. So just wondering if our engagement is worthwhile. That’s why it may be better to have a teams/zoom discussion. What do you think?
comment in response to
post
You are right we don’t reply to everything mainly because of time. One question though: does our replying make any difference? We engage because we want to understand better the issues so we can design better products - but does it help you in anyway? 1/2

Wood is a subset of dom. Comb.
So even though more wood is used for heating overall pm2.5 are down. The good wood burning message is getting through - modern stoves are making a +ve difference and that is good news for everyone. Let’s talk so we can explain more.

We don't want our customers to have to read vile and racist comments! We have no problems backing our products and making the case for good wood burning. We even hope to convince you one day😉

Limiting replies and blocking are two different things. Look at the replies tab - we still debate

We have great respect for the evidence - it’s what drives us to develop and improve how wood is burnt. It’s what we’ve been doing day in day out for decades. We have and are still are making huge progress. Come and see!

We do debate on X - but paused doing so on our own feed for reasons we mentioned before. We don’t like to block where we can help it as it stifles sensible debate

We know Jason and he is passionate about the environment. His point is to do with neighbour disputes. We have all have choices. We prefer to live on IOW and not London with the bad AQ on the tube - but you take a different view and that's OK. Respect is important.
comment in response to

We spend our time innovating to burn wood well. With respect your picture is the same as one we could post but it proves nothing. That's why we should sit down and talk properly.
comment in response to

Abuse and unpleasantness is not right from either side. That is why if we are serious about finding solutions and understanding each other we should sit down and have respectful debate.

Good point about local bad burning vs national figures. Let's discuss it if we meet.
comment in response to

We are always willing to.engage (like now). FYI we turned comments off on X because some of the images were vile, racist and had very sinister undertones which no-one should have to see on our feed. Unfortunately it seems that Bluesky is starting to go the same way. Always happy to meet you though.
comment in response to

It's not that we want just to defend woodburning, but we think that it can have a very positive part to play in the energy mix WHEN done well. You take a different view and that's ok - surely meeting to understand each other better can't be a bad thing to try even if it's just once!
comment in response to

It's not that they are inaccurate - just that (justifiably) you can dismiss a photo of a AQ monitor. True we have equipment that costs 10s thousands - but the point is we are willing to speak with you so we can understand each other better. For some reason campaigners seem unwilling to engage 🤷♂️
comment in response to

We have nothing hide. But showing you a photo of a cheap AQ monitor with a low reading won't prove anything. Happy to arrange a team/zoom catch-up where we can have a respectful discussion? No pressure, but the offer is there. PM us if interested.

OK - name a place - we think it could be helpful to discuss in detail. We could show you the latest products we are making and we can discuss your concerns.

No offence taken on our part. We want clean air and sustainability too - we just have different thoughts on the method. As you know we are always open to having you visit. We appreciate your passion.

But - even if we assume all you say is correct (which we can dispute another time) - Oxford scientists still say open fire use is associated with longer life🤔
comment in response to

This might be a first.... I think we agree on open fires Mike! That's why we prefer stoves - so much better. Just think, if Oxford scientists say that open fires make you live longer stoves must be even better!! Have a good evening!

Just come and see us - we will listen to you and you can hear from us. We are trying to make a positive difference in what we do as we are sure you are too. If we choose to believe the best in each other we may just get somewhere.... how about trying?
comment in response to

Of course - we have much more advanced equipment also. We even have electric charging (and a pretty cool bike shed with a living roof) and a lot of renewables for heating and energy so no issue on carbon footprint-do come a see for yourself otherwise whatever we say you will choose not to believe us
comment in response to

Even better why don't you come and see for yourself and bring your AQ monitor! You will be impressed. PM us you will be really welcome.
comment in response to

As you will know we are passionate about correct use and clean burning - in fact this is our latest product. You are welcome to come and see it in action, and we're sure you will be impressed because it solves the problems you are experiencing

We do appreciate your situation is not good and needs addressing but there are many, many homes that operate modern stoves effectively with no issues. Our mission is to make burning as efficient and clean as possible and to ensure it is done well, responsibly and respectfully.

Ecodesign stoves make up a small percentage of that figure burning upto 90% better. If those that burn wood switched to a modern stove the figure would be greatly reduced. Stoves won’t suit all properties (eg flats) but many rely on it. No energy source is perfect www.charnwood.com/news/out-of-...

An extremely misleading comparison! Our civilisation was built on wood burning and modern stoves have significantly reduced emissions - playing an important part in making our air cleaner. Read more here www.charnwood.com/news/smoke-a...
