These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer. These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP. You can follow his remarkable reporting herešŸ‘‡ www.instagram.com/ethanswopeph...

Itā€™s really great to see more and more of this framing: ā€œTo resist, then, start by orienting against the real enemy: wealthy people invested in the status quo.ā€ This is our common enemy and a mass movement against it can be built.

"The current fires are reminders of the costs of forgetting." - @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social

Our annual temperature report will come out, alongside NASA & NOAA, at 11 AM ET / 8 AM PT / 5 PM CET today. I'll also be doing a thread to summarize the results.

"every fraction of a degree matters" is true as hell. In the same way that releasing CO2 hurts people and planet, avoiding its release saves us from potential harm This isn't some saccharine 'hopeful' message: it's the hard, inarguable physical reality. www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/w...

Global losses from natural disasters reached 320 billion U.S. dollars in 2024 The LA fires alone could be half that amount in the new year www.cleanenergywire.org/news/global-...

No, the world has not breached the 1.5C global warming target. Itā€™s a climate target - which means itā€™s an average that must be sustained over at least a decade. We currently sit at 1.2 C. Which is already very bad. The science is clear: every bit of warming matters, every action matters.

Our 2024 Annual Temperature Report is now out. Record warmth affecting billions of people, but also worrying signs of faster than expected warmth. šŸ§ŖšŸŒŠ

Actual Data Show Renewables Reduce Electricity Prices My unpublished response to Bjorn Lomborg's @wsj.com op-ed of Jan. 1 "Green Electricity Costs a Bundle," which claims, ā€œthe notion that solar and wind power save money is an environmentalist lie.ā€ web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/j...

These are the key facts everyone needs to know about climate change, according to @yaleclimatecomm.bsky.social. I shared this post across 7 different social media platforms, including FB, LI, Mastodon, Threads, X and Twitter both pre-and post-Musk. Here's how their engagement stacked up. šŸ§µ

May be a low bar, but Justin Trudeau's government did more to fight climate change than any government in Canadian history, second place is not even remotely close.

Is it just me, but has the transition from ā€œTrudeau must resign immediatelyā€ to ā€œHow dare Trudeau betray and abandon Canada by resigning at this incredibly perilous timeā€ from certain voices and media out there been absolutely lightning fast? Iā€™m starting to suspect some bad faith out thereā€¦

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150,000 trees have been planted and 45 hectares of parks created in the city, to improve quality-of-life today, and also to help the city adapt to and manage summer heatwaves of 50ā„ƒ (122F) by 2050. On top of everything else Paris has been doing.

Your 'moment of doom' for Dec. 21, 2024 ~ The latest buzz. ā€œThis study shows us that we have entire regions that could lose their primary pollinator as the climate warms, which could be catastrophic for those ecosystems.ā€

Albertaā€™s Eastern Slopes & Rocky Mountain foothills are special place which deserve the highest level of environmental protections. This am the UCP opened released policy which would allow more coal development & more pollution. #ArtAdventCalendar day 20 is dedicated to preserving these landscapes.

Today I watched a raven chase a great grey owl though our yard. The puppies were not impressed.

The EPA only requires pesticide manufacturers to perform 3 narrow tests on adult honeybees to assess toxicity to... all insects. Sometimes the 3rd test is waived. That must change to protect insects, according to a petition from @xercessociety.bsky.social. www.thenewlede.org/2024/12/epa-...

We must account for the costs of #biodiversity loss from agriculture & other activities; as @pammcelwee.bsky.social tells the FT "We pass those costs on, whether itā€™s to insurance companies or to poor and marginalised people who are suffering from these pollution burdens or the malnutrition burdensā€
