It's the shift from a regular capitalism to financial capitalism. Now, ultra-wealthy people can make more money by moving money around (crypto, stocks, trade deals, etc.) than by making things that people buy. So, their primary concern is keeping financial markets deregulated and keeping taxes low.

A striking thing in my con law class was the Bush terror detention cases. They start out very permissive, but over time the court limits Bush more. My con law prof asked what we thought was happening. People guessed at a lot of legal theories. “No!” he said. “The court stopped trusting him.”
