Do protests and boycotts help, and when? We "know" protests and boycotts "work" because something positive happens after them sometimes. But, how much of the result is due to other things that were going on? And what about interest groups promoting the ones that worked?

What if Marxist sociologists ran the world and administered a civil religion that has mostly replaced the old religions? (A 19th-century social philosopher, possibly August Comte, proposed just such a scheme.)

Sociology lesson (for no particular reason): Minority and majority status are about political and economic power. Now, often the most numerous group has most of the power but that isn't always the case. South Africa in the apartheid era is an example of that.

I submitted a short story and worked on another so my February is off to a good start, at least as far as creative writing goes.

Stories about hackers, bounty hunters, and cybersleuths going up against corrupt and amoral oligarchs could be trite and cliche or timely (but mostly entertaining). Right? I hope so. I hope I can nail the "entertaining" part.

I've written about activism tools and tactics in the past, so. here are a couple of relevant thoughts: Try to understand the arguments, counterarguments, and data really well. Remember that you are probably involved in marketing an idea, policy, program, or behavior. Think like a marketer.
