The best/worst thing about this era is that they keep openly admitting to their nefarious plans - and still people act surprised.

The heads of multiple federal agencies have told their employees not to respond to Musk’s email. Seems like Musk would’ve gotten approval for this draconian change in policy from Trump, with Cabinet officers informed in advance. But no, because this admin is in utter chaos.

It is.

Oh that's a good id- *elderly? Fucking ELDERLY!??* I feel unusual. I think I may need to go outside.

The acknowledgement at the end. Elephants are the best.

Great thread on the different meanings of “centrist”. One that is purely positional is doomed

Went to see the touring production of A Man For All Seasons. (Martin Shaw and Gary Wilmot both very good in their respective roles, the latter as the everyman/steward chorus.) And yes, this exchange hit home - perhaps best exchange about law in drama/film. youtu.be/PDBiLT3LASk?...

#1994AlbumsTop20 After six years in the musical wilderness the Mael brothers return with a Euro Dance stomper. The beginning of Sparks’ second golden age. They’ve never looked back

In Italian, the same word is also used to refer to just about anyone who is a good candidate for something. Papabile. They also use the smoke signals to explain how negotiations are going (grey smoke means close, white smoke done deal).

I hope there won't be the opportunity for all these choosing the new Pope and Conclave jokes, seeing as I very much like the current fellow.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) - Keats comes in for 2 scenes, chomps nuts, and drops straight bangers. Rest of movie also very good in a Sorkiny way.

We are going to have so much trouble explaining to the next generations how the hell this idiot was elected. TWICE.

Didn't the USA also stay out of WWII until Pearl Harbor? I guess some things don't really change.

Pay attention to this. Replacing JAGs with loyalists enables whatever orders Trump and Hegseth issue to be interpreted as lawful.

another Nazi salute at CPAC

If Barack Obama hadn't made jokes about Donald Trump blinging up The White House when he was in the room, we might not be in the stupidest timeline right now. Jokes really can be dangerous. youtu.be/HHckZCxdRkA?...

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

So they removed the black chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the middle of his 4-year tour, without cause, and they're seeking to replace him with a white **retired** Air Force three-star general who lacks the requisite experience as a service chief or combatant commander? Huh, how about that

I think everyone would benefit from knowing that Norman Rockwell's Freedom of Speech actually depicts the guy advancing an explicitly reactionary, dumb as nails position that you would have to be a true moron to support (against building a school)

One of those things you see and then spend years wondering if you made it up until it surfaces on the internet

This is why I'm really worried for America. We've got open fascism on the one hand and open support for murder on the other. These two societal approaches will collide and nothing good can come of it. This is why centrists are a valuable buffer. Or they were...

Life imitates art…

I’d like to think I’m the first person to get into a flame war with VPOTUS from the swimming pool of Woburn Center Parcs at half-term.

another great example along with Wired and Teen Vogue of how real journalism these days can be a lot braver at outlets where no one is trying to get in good with the White House press secretary they’re out here with us, reporting on what’s happening to us all, instead of trying to get inside access

Susannah just said “do you remember Quark Xpress” and I said “YES I used to use it, I wonder what happened to it,” and my word, it Still Exists — this is like finding out that Jesus Jones are still touring, i.e. it doesn’t make any significant difference to me, but it’s good to know it’s happening

Luigi Mangione going free following a mistrial because Eric Adams will not stop chatting is not necessarily plausible, but it is the timeline we deserve.
