Watching a movie every day. Would that it twer sooo simple. Don’t blame me for the world’s woes, I heard the song Hakuna Matata at an impressionable age and made it my Gen X mantra.

Jesse & Imogen meet the estate agent from hell, Nicholas Hoult should recuse, in the desert no-one hears Britni’s yell, and two thespians take much abuse. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday #letterboxd #filmsky

365 Days of Film #50 - Grand Theft Hamlet. A surprisingly sweet tale of a bunch of strangers stuck in lockdown coming together over their love of Shakespeare and shooting the shit out of each other. Gamers and non-gamers alike might be surprised at how effective this is. Zuck will be so jealous!

365 Days of Film #49 - Blood Star. “Anything here gonna stick or stab me?” The Hitcher, if the hitcher was a cop. Even the OST has hints of Isham’s memorable score, if a lot more generic. Cat and mouse films need two good performances, and newcomer Britni Camacho does a good job with decent script.

365 Days of Film #48 - Juror #2 (2024). Great cast in what feels like a Grisham movie from the 90’s. Nicholas Hoult is perfect as the conflicted protagonist and the story is laid out in an intriguing way. Fans of the genre might poke holes in some of the plot machinations but it’s a solid thriller.

365 Days of Film #47 - Vivarium (2020). A couple find themselves trapped in fake suburbia, raising a strange child. It feels like someone watched the Lego movie and Under The Dome, then had a bad dream. Not substantial enough to be a feature, maybe would have been more powerful as a short story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

365 Days of Film #46 - Fargo (1996). Rewatch. Desperate weasel has a plan to make money. It quickly goes off the rails when kidnappers accidentally leave pile of bodies in their wake. Frances McDormand’s Marge the cop figures out what happened with the speed of Miss Marple in this 5-star Coen film.

365 Days of Film #45 - Conclave (2024). Rewatched at home & it made me glad I caught this on the majesty of a big screen. It’s the kind of “small” film you think will be fine to wait to watch on a smaller screen, but if you can catch it in a cinema I recommend you make like a Vatican turtle & go now

Unrequited Delpy love is motivating, Steve Martin finds parenting fun, Juliette Binoche is going swimming, Bella Thorne's having fun on the run. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday #letterboxd #filmsky

365 Days of Film #44 - Three Colours White (1994). A woman divorces her husband because he’s unable to satisfy her. He stalks her, she humiliates him, and so he returns to Poland from where he will plot his revenge. Note: four short years later viagra became widely available 🥲

365 Days of Film #43 - Parenthood (1989). Aside from one scene (10 years before Columbine), this film has aged like a fine wine. They don’t make ensemble movies like this anymore, the star power is incredible, including a very young Joaquin Phoenix and Keanu Reeves in his breakout year. #filmsky

365 Days of Film #42 - Three Colours Blue (1993). First of the classic Kieslowski trilogy stars the wonderful faultless Juliette Binoche as a grieving woman who checks out to live a meagre existence after the death of her husband and child. A melancholy takes hold, but life finds a way.

365 Days of Film #41 - Infamous (2020). As trashy as the poster makes it look but I honestly had some fun with this film: better than Kalifornia - if only because it avoids the horrible voiceover for the most part - plus a nice role reversal & a nod to the fickle fate of fame in our digital age.

365 Days of Film #40 - Follow Me (2020). SPOILERS: if you've seen Michael Douglas' The Game, you know this movie from the get-go. As many people haven't - or even if you have - at least it's not called The Game, which I always felt gave the premise away in the title. For what it is, it's done well.

My ride is here

Call it Gulf of North America Day and you’ve got gonad… just saying.

365 Days of Film #39 - The Straight Story (1999). “I just need a little help getting up, honey.” A wonderful opening that’s made to deceive: credits that look like a Disney space flick and a first scene that promises all kinds of Lynchian sinister. Quickly settles into a wonderful “straight” story.

365 Days of Film #38 - Sunshine (2007). Crew of Icarus 2 (including early career turns from Chris Evans, Rose Byrne, Benedict Wong & Cillian Murphy) attempt to kickstart the sun with a massive bomb. A great script & technically gorgeous to look at. Alex Garland’s & Danny Boyle’s third collaboration.
