I just found out that Chappell Roan has the same birthday as me, which is today. And I feel so emboldened by this!!! I too want to create joyful art that’s also political and inclusive and look hot at the same time and talk petty shit about my exes like

Great news for Freelancers working in the State of CA! The Freelance Worker Protection Act went into effect January 1, 2025. This law requires freelancers to be paid 30 days after completion of work for any job over $250, & gives them the ability to take legal action against clients who don’t pay.

So I’ve been calling all 3 of my gov’t reps about one issue basically every weekday. This morning a staff picked up and asked for my name. I gave it and he said go ahead with my comment. I asked “wait, you don’t need my address or zip code?” He replied “Oh we already have you on file here.” !!!

I read my journal from 2016-2017 to make sense of how to move forward. defector.com/its-day-one-...

Today’s glimmer of hope brought to you by the creator of Watch Duty, LA’s nonprofit fire map that’s been such a lifeline for so many. More of this, please! www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/dig...

Los Angeles teachers, if you lost your classroom library in the fire, I am a HS English teacher and YA author and I will get you books whenever you're ready for them. The bookish community is here for you. There is no expiration date. tinyurl.com/LAFireBookDo...

A free mobile app I used often before, during, and after wildfires is Air Visual to see when (and where) the air quality is safe to go outside on a walk for my mental health. It also has rough forecast for the next few days

If you don’t have a local library card, it should be your New Year’s resolution to get one. It’s an easy resolution to keep and you’ll actually use it, trust me.

Meta says it's still rolling out changes to loosen content moderation—but it already updated its Hateful Conduct policy with big changes. For example...it explicitly allows calling someone mentally ill for being gay or trans now www.wired.com/story/meta-i...

Meta quietly updated its hateful conduct policy to allow users to refer to "women as household objects or property" among other offensive language.

This morning I woke up and went to go feed my cat without my glasses. I stepped in his vomit, and thankfully I was wearing slippers at least…very appropriate way to start 2025, honestly

Me writing two thousand words this evening literally on New Year’s Eve to squeeze them in the word count for this year

Without downloading any new pics what’s your energy going into 2025?

This is… bleak. (And salt to an old wound as someone who was once replaced by a White male showrunner).

Learning snowboarding in your thirties is not easy, but lemme tell you, riding a piece of wood down the mountain fast really does make you feel like a badass

After finishing StoryStudio Chicago's excellent "YA Novel in a Year" program, I got accepted into Tin House's online winter workshop! When I got the email, I was at a restaurant and started crying. It felt like the validation and confirmation I needed to keep going on this long writing journey.

I spent years making friends on Twitter, following writers and journalists I admire, and getting verified before deactivating my account. All I wanted was to one day post one of those Publishers Marketplace screencap saying I got a book deal...maybe that dream can happen *here* one day instead 🤞
