The city of Bologna recently published the 100% design (progetto esecutivo) of the tramway green line and it really shows how hard it can be to fit a tram even in interwar and postwar areas of Italian cities: a lateral alignment with a lot of driveways cuts is often the only arrangement that fits.

I was looking at a picture of the recently renovated station of Guastalla on the FER network, and one can really see the evolution from the old type of narrow low platforms with at-grade access (first 2 pics) to the modern h55 one with underpass and canopy (last 2 pics).
