Top bureaucrats shifty before Parliament over mystery of library litigation frenzy #auspol michaelwest.com.au/top-bureaucr...

The ‘problem’ in selecting a nuclear waste site in the past was that community consultation/support was required. That’s no longer the case. The Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Act 2024 allows the Defence Minister to designate an #AUKUS waste site at the stoke of a pen. #auspol

To celebrate wildly over-estimating how much coffee I'd need to stay up for @theshot.net.au's (very enjoyable) Sunday Shot session, here's a thread on the latest emissions update for Aus As @pollyjhemming.bsky.social pointed out: Labor's tenure have been a continuation of Coalition policies....

‘Merit based appointments’ is really code for straight, white blokes, isn’t it? And in this country you can chuck in ‘private school educated’ for good measure.

We seem to have reached full 1984. Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia have always been at war...

You can’t waste your vote in Australia, thanks to the genius of preferential voting. It’s what helps set our voting system apart from the US and the UK. @richarddenniss.bsky.social explains how it works. 👇

Our Deputy PM handed over $800m to the US for a dodgy submarine deal that: - won't deliver - gives up what remains of Australia's sovereignty - makes us less safe, and - Trump has no idea about. #AUKUS is cactus. And the govt needs to stop pretending otherwise. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

"The question Australia now faces is this: should a Palestinian have her life and career ruined, for the crime of opposing the genocide of her own people? The Labor Party, the Liberals, the Murdoch Press, and the pro-Israel lobbies have given their answers." medium.com/@abrahamedwa...

ICYMI- yesterday's #VeniceBiennale cartoon for @australia.theguardian.com

The Govt’s Employment White Paper absolutely trashed the private sector employment services sector, and yet…

It's well past time for our 'government' to make some definitive statements about Israel as a genocidal war criminal. Kick the ambassador out. Being "deeply concerned" is just NOT fucking good enough.

The US is not a safe place to conduct sporting events, host academic conferences or conduct business. Those who decide such things have an obligation to act in the safety of their members. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

If Trump hasn't picked his energy czar yet, or even if he has, this bloke should be on a rocket straight into the top job. Enough sawdust between his ears to bed a herd of elephants. Ticks all the current boxes @simonahac.bsky.social @profraywills.bsky.social

The Attorney General's Department will implement a National Firearms Registry by combining existing databases - apparently this will take 4 whole years?!

In the new hard world of Donald Trump, everything is about what a country has to offer. Australia has 2 things the US wants: the Pine Gap spy facility & proximity to China. As Trump upends geopolitics, what happens to 5-Eyes & AUKUS? My new column: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

In The Age today. If you can't get the editorial parts of the paper to acknowledge this reality, at least you can buy an ad.

For Peter Dutton, the public service is a 'magic pudding' to be cynically raided at election time, rather than an essential support system that millions of Australian veterans, pensioners, families and students rely on every day. #election2025 #auspol

‘A senior Lib senator has suggested the head of the country's leading climate body could be sacked if the Coalition wins the election’ Wait, what? You are not Elon Musk & this is not America! #auspol #NotDutton #NotLNP www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

If you want the corrupt political duopoly to continue in the land of Oz, whatever you do, don't share this video which educates voters... youtu.be/1kYIojG707w?... Tx @thejuicemedia.bsky.social brilliant stuff 🖖 #Auspol

Housing - the answer to Albo's polling woes. @michaelpascoe01.bsky.social let's fly on "developer's supply bulldust", "the doctrinaire rantings of the national dailies" and the RBA #auspol michaelwest.com.au/housing-rba-...

Long, interesting read by John Lyons. 'Defence analyst Hugh White's assessment is blunt: "The sooner we cut our losses and get out of AUKUS the better, and if the Trump administration's scepticism offers a chance to do so, we should grab it." #auspol www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

Today the Climate Change Authority has come out and said that the Coalition nuclear energy proposal is equivalent to adding ‘two Beetaloo basins’ worth of emissions into the atmosphere. We simply can’t keep looking away from the climate crisis. It’s here and it’s accelerating.

A new report has found direct connections between the climate crisis & rising cost-of-living pressures. Failure to lower emissions now will only aggravate the crisis, with each moment of inaction compounding the pressure on households. #ClimateCrisis #auspol australiainstitute.org.au/post/climate...

NATO can't protect Europe from Russia because the US has defected. The EU can't because UK is no longer a member. The UN can't because of Russia & US. We need a body with Europe + UK but not Russia + US, with existing admin infrastructure. What I'm saying is: arm the Eurovision Song Contest.

Kind of darkly funny that the other story of politics right now is that women are becoming increasingly left-wing while men drive the far-right resurgence.

Why the tech oligarchs aside from Musk sucked up to Trump. Surely the PM has to respond to this rather than do the usual "won't have a running commentary" thing considering Australia is specifically named. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Dr Assal Rad on Twitter— “This headline is so vague it could be about anything. What happened to “who, what, when, where, and how”?”

If the proposed laws around mandatory sentences targeting alleged ‘antisemitism’ were targeting all racism and had been around during the Voice debate, we’d have had to build new jails. I’d be feeling pretty unappreciated if I was an Indigenous Australian. #auspol
