Why are some people underrepresented in patient experience research - and what can we do about it? Our (@pickereurope.bsky.social) new paper describes five key barriers to representation - and offers suggestions on reducing these. Full, free paper at 👉 bit.ly/PatientFeedb... 📖 #PatientExperience

Why are some groups underrepresented in patient experience measures? There's more to it than non-response. Really happy to have this paper published. I'm biased but understanding & improving representation strikes me as crucially important to make the most of patient feedback. #PatientExperience

A valuable report from @healthwatchengland.bsky.social today, showing that many people experience poor NHS care but don't complain. We need a far simpler, better integrated system for complaints across the NHS - at present it is far too difficult for patients to know how to complain and to whom.

Making a complaint is a right enshrined in the NHS Constitution. Yet, our new research shows people have low confidence in the NHS complaints system and struggle to navigate it. This prevents them from complaining if they get poor care. Find out more www.healthwatch.co.uk/news/2025-01...

I exited the year in a post of a trio of newer papers so heres a few of the older ones... We used maps to help tailor services to local needs in a quality improvement project that boosted therapy referrals for psychology Https://doi.org/10.1093/pubmed/fds071

All of statistics and much of science depends on probability — an astonishing achievement, considering no one’s really sure what it is. 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Where did 2024 go? I'm sure it's only been a couple of months since I was writing about my highlights of 2023, but here we are...

📢Yesterday, the Government provided an update on its #PlanforChange, which includes a commitment to “Build an #NHS Fit for the Future”. @chrisgrahamuk.bsky.social, Group Chief Executive Officer at @pickereurope.bsky.social, has responded to the plan.👇

Very helpful reference list to tackle "Common statistical myths". Will now be saved in my favourites! 😊 #medstats #stats

The 2024 #NHS Maternity Survey, coordinated by @pickereurope.bsky.social, highlights ongoing issues in maternity care despite some improvements. Picker's Chief Research Officer, Jenny King, emphasises the need for continued efforts for high-quality, person centred care. 👉 bit.ly/2024MaternitySurvey

Squares with something I noticed a lot in my own work: if you wait a long time for care and the process of accessing it is frustrating /user-unfriendly, you are less likely to trust that the care is good when you finally get to it.

Very pleased that @katestakes.bsky.social is included as part of a very strong line up for this event in February 2024 - see bit.ly/Symposium2025 for further details

🚨 A new survey coordinated by @pickereurope.bsky.social for the Care Quality Commission, reveals that long waits in #A&E and urgent care lead to poorer patient experiences. Responses highlight the need for better patient communication and support. Read more👉: bit.ly/UECSurvey2024

“Patients are suffering the consequences of a system that is in crisis, while staff continue to shoulder the burden of delivering effective and safe care in these conditions." RCEM's President responds to CQC's Urgent and Emergency Care survey. Read more here - tinyurl.com/3ypeesvh

V useful thread on the CQC’s UEC survey published today. Aligns with the concerns we continue to hear from patients about poor waits for emergency care. As with so many other areas, some relatively small changes to improve waiting for individuals could significantly improve overall experience

CQC have published the 2024 urgent & emergency care experience survey - see www.cqc.org.uk/publications... for full results. Headlines: - Long waits associated with worse experiences of care across the board - Poor experience of communication, involvement, etc More below: 🧵 #patientexperience

NHS patient experience watchers: CQC's national urgent and emergency care survey publishes tomorrow at 9.30am. Keep an eye on www.cqc.org.uk/publications... and nhssurveys.org for the details - and I'll be sharing my thoughts here during the morning. #patientexperience #UEC #NHS

I really like this. Cancer patients' experiences of administration are strongly associated with their overall experiences of care, so these details matter
