It’ll be such a great loss if this film never sees the light of day www.nytimes.com/2024/09/08/m...

It’ll be a great loss if we never get to see this film www.nytimes.com/2024/09/08/m...

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

If the president defies the courts and Congress does not impeach him for it, the Constitution simply ceases to exist.

Absolute dogshit from wapo

One of them should have just taken one for the team.

A lot of people calling this Nazi shit, which isn’t wrong, but imo slave catchers are an equally important historical analogy here.

What color shirts do we think this small army of private citizens will be wearing?

Please read this. It's terrifying and well researched/ reported. theintercept.com/2025/02/06/b...

When Musk's minions forced their way into USAID's servers, they made themselves "super administrators" meaning they had access to workers' Social Security numbers, credit histories, and home addresses. They may have well broken the law. www.propublica.org/article/usai...

The right thing to do is to put out a statement saying that Democrats will consider this to be insurrection against the US government and Constitution, and that those who take seriously their oath have 1 week to arrest and detain Musk or be considered offering him aid and comfort.

Someone should make a database that allows you to click on a location and see in detail how Trumps cuts are hurting you directly. What medical center closed? What schools aren’t being funded? What programs are shutting down?

Jared Kushner was openly talking about confiscating Gaza for luxe resorts a year ago.

Same fuckin clowns that lost us the election

There's a pattern here -- seen in Musk's threat to end the IRS Direct File, for instance -- of them targeting the valuable services and information that taxpayers currently get for free and setting up a system where we'll have to pay private companies instead. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

@nytimes.com why do all these headlines that make him sound like jimmy stewart?

They could be doing irreparable damage to the federal civil service in their attempts to thin it out, with few, if any, ways of finding out what they’re doing. It kind of makes Hillary Clinton’s storing of government data on a private email server look rather quaint, doesn’t it?

“President Trump proposes textbook case of ethnic cleansing”

In a scenario where they just start proclaiming people criminals and locking them up, what’s standing in their way? It seems to me like a pretty much the entire chain of command would have to refuse to comply, not just one or two brave souls

When they disband the department of education they intend to segregate the schools. That matters.

from Meditations in an Emergency, my new newsletter, day three: But I do not believe the people of this country will submit to the destruction and the attempts at dictatorship. We are not submitting now. meditations-in-an-emergency.ghost.io/we-are-not-w...

I don't think "seeing the consequences" automatically moves people to take action. We've all experienced consequences that actually serve to demobilize us in our own lives. That's why "FAFO" is not actually a strategy for anything constructive. It usually just means more suffering.

This Fiona Apple narrated explainer PSA on how to film (and release footage from, not livestream) ICE arrests is exactly what we need from people with production skills right now and is worth about 3 million celebrity “imagine” covers in terms of survival utility

One of the worst takes from online leftists is that people outside the US shouldn’t talk about US politics. I’d love to forget your clown-ass politics, but as it turns out, your war-mongering, genocidal, imperialist president has the power to drag MY country into his wars.

Work/life balance is so important in these uncertain times

they are stealing data from the american people and depriving us of the transparency that we are entitled to by law. none of this is legal and not a single federal employee has any reason to comply.

it's not hyperbolic to say we're witnessing a coup.

classic Loony Tunes have much to teach us about class solidarity

This whole thread, about academics being told that their teaching materials are now subject to the scrutiny of everyone in the state, is horrifying. But man, this detail specifically is absolutely deranged from a legal/sovereignty/jurisdictional perspective.

Complete fabrication "A comprehensive report issued in Sept by USAid, not a penny of the $60.8m in contraceptive and condom shipments funded by the US in the past year went to Gaza…the accounting shows, there were no condoms sent to any part of the Middle East" www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Things presented in this very British article about childhood development trends as equally distressing: -not being potty trained -not being able to climb stairs -lacking the core strength to sit up independently -using American vocabulary

Tell those comic clowns to fix their hearts or die

We are living through Republicanism boiled down to its essence: Everyone should be deprived of everything, because otherwise, somebody I don't like might get something I don't want them to have. We call it an ideology, but it's really a personality: Greedy, withholding, suspicious, angry, cruel.

I don’t think it’s nice to drag potatoes into this but otherwise yes, primary everyone

For a half decade the most consistent argument in the op-ed pages of the biggest newspapers was the grave threat to free speech on campus. Now, either crickets or explicit support for students losing everything because they sat on a university lawn and chanted against babies being mass murdered.

I'd like to note the outrage of overediting a Nobel laureate in his area of expertise, and that a lot of writers (including me) have had horrible experiences of overediting in the legacy media: not just changing language but meaning and often values. Making your voice and views into theirs.

Doing Nazi shit ironically is still just doing Nazi shit. This is honestly a silly distinction and only necessary when you start with the conclusion that he can’t hold those beliefs instead of seeing the salute as another expression of his beliefs, along with everything else he has been open about.

"This level of corrupt cash-grabbing would’ve been unfathomable for a president as recently as a decade ago. Now, however, it’s just another form of misconduct Republicans are doing their damndest to normalize."

Gonna need more Luigis

I saw this on TikTok but I had to go see it for myself. The White House website, translated into Spanish—gone. And they’ve replaced the Home button with the words “Go Home.” www.whitehouse.gov/es/

Oh fuck me

this is not the government of "we just think trans rights went a little too far". On day 1, this administration has indicated that their priority is to stamp us out of existence. This will be hard for some third parties to accept as truth but they've been plainly and openly saying it for years.

The point of the firehose of Executive Orders is to disorient and to demobilize. It's to instill maximum fear. If we know this, then that's already half the battle. This means that we have to respond with focus on those most vulnerable & targets. It means we have to refuse their attempt to scare us.
