As a Missouri resident, that last line 100%

She wasn’t perfect but she sure as hell wouldn’t be threatening our allies

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later). Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

And ballots. Which is why we always talk about how bodily autonomy and democracy are inextricably linked

You never imagine the descent into despotism being quite this embarrassing, you know? You expect liberal democracy to fall to a Palpatine, not Biff Tannen.

Imagine if Barack Obama or Joe Biden said they were above the law. Imagine if Obama or Biden were pocketing tens of millions of dollars while they were in office. Imagine if Obama or Biden pardoned people who violently attacked the Capitol to prevent a Republican from taking office.

Just for you young folk, I’m not that old but I’m still old enough to remember when it would only take one of the five hundred insane things Trump has done since January 20th to bring down the entire administration.

Think Tank Called ‘The Himmler Institute’ Assures Nation This All Legal

And there’s more- “Top Trump administration officials are openly questioning the judiciary’s authority to serve as a check on executive power as the new president’s sweeping agenda faces growing pushback from the courts.” @apnews.com apnews.com/article/trum...

Never would’ve thought I’d live in a world where I agreed with Liz Cheney on anything, let alone constantly nod my head in agreement with her. That’s how bad all of this is.

Apparently, the Vice President was not paying attention in law school when the landmark 1803 Supreme Court decision in Marbury v. Madison was assigned. There, the Court stated: “It is emphatically the province of the judicial department to say what the law is.”

De facto fucking boss. An unelected, foreign-born billionaire. Congrats America, you really did it this time.

Honestly, fuck each and every one of you that either didn’t vote or voted for him because of Palestine.

Y’all remember that flashback in The Handmaid’s Tale where the military starts firing on protestors?

@gtconway.bsky.social so change my mind here: if Elon says, “they’ve made their decision; now let them enforce it!” and continues on, ignoring the courts with impunity, we’re done yeah? I don’t see how anything is off the table at that point, and we are nearing that scenario.

“Elon Musk’s influence appears unchecked,” @jonlemire.bsky.social writes. “But the Republican-controlled Congress has shown no desire so far to rein Musk in. There has never been a private citizen like him.”

I can’t believe Mitch fucking McConnell is the voice of reason and sanity. This timeline has gone so off the rails.

Yeah I don’t give a fuck about the #Grammys at this particular moment in time, thank you.

Breaking: Democratic Senators agree to come together and perform a heartfelt rendition of Imagine.

Do older Americans know that Elon Musk now controls access to their Social Security and health insurance?

Trump is openly violating the law on a vast and unprecedented scale and everyone is acting like it's normal. NPR had a long story about finding a rare shrew. NYT said he was disregarding "legal niceties." This is an attack on the Constitution as profound as the attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

I really can’t wrap my head around congressional Democrats’ response to the past 12 days of crises. It reeks of pathetic capitulation. Trump is asserting dictatorial powers of absolute control over the entire government and the reaction is “we don’t swing at every pitch”? An appalling abdication.

If only we were merely living in an SNL skit

While I sympathize with Ms. Granger and her family, this isn’t just wild, it’s incredibly dishonest to the country and Granger’s constituents in Texas #CD12. Granger’s staff has covered up ‼️ that she’s been in memory care for SIX MONTHS. She’s the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee! Wow.

Hoping the Rickey Henderson rumor is untrue.

Honestly I’m so happy @benstiller.redhour.com live tweets his basketball experiences. It’s a wonderful break from the constant feed of political depression.

Ok amazing Adam Sandler cameo #SNL

I had polio when i was 9. I was taken from my parents & placed in a Hospital for contageous diseases- the polio ward. I would see them once a week - thru the glass window at the end of my ward. I could not walk. It was terrifying. Kids died. Iron lungs were awful. Dont let RFK Jr ban the vaccine

Robber barons is way too polite a term for this generation of sociopathic billionaires

The most heartwarming post I’ve seen from @auschwitzmemorial.bsky.social. It’s a wonderful break from the mass murder people like this guy helped facilitate. Please remember this, #America.

The kind of bad decision that happens after not sleeping all night: starting your Sunday with #SchindlersList. Amazing movie and I’ll be depressed all day.

Ok watched The Dark Knight Rises for the first time in like a decade. This movie was *way* better than I remember it being at the time. Or maybe it’s because I’m older and a parent and I see that sadness in Bruce. It’s just kind of raw there at the end. #Batman

From time to time in Los Angeles I meet people who were involved in the Nakatomi business. They always find this time of year difficult.
