As a scientist who has found this program really helpful, I'm happy to talk to reporters if needed.

Do not go gentle into that good night, State Department AQ Program. A thread of coverage as I see it (or link if you see it). New York Times: www.nytimes.com/2025/03/04/c...

This is a tragic loss. Monitoring air quality at U.S. embassies and consulates supports the health not only of the staff at those embassies, but the health of the neighboring communities. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/04/c...

Excited to see Sustenta Honduras' Julia Jahzeel present their work installing the first air quality monitoring network in Honduras at this AirGradient Ltd. event on Friday. Very proud to count Sustenta Honduras as an EPIC AQ Awardee! zoom.us/meeting/regi...

Great piece by @openaq.org's Chris Hagerbaumer on why open air quality data is so important for global health. Timely in advance of the WHO's 2nd Global Conference on Air Pollution & Health next month. 4 Recs: 1 - All governments measure and track AQ.

Seven more days to apply to join our team as its resident M&E expert!⌛

Termination notices going out this afternoon to more than 300 employees of the National Cancer Institute. Access likely ends today. Four weeks paid leave and that’s it. Strong power move for Team Cancer.

The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the CO₂ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii. @noaa.gov had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

"Building trust is vital....We want [air quality monitors] to be owned by the community." - Alex Ndyabakira, Kampala Capital City Authority Great article featuring work by Dorothy Lsoto, Deo Okure, and others: whowhatwhy.org/science/envi...

This is a critical, rare global accounting of basic AQ info availability. It also illustrates great opportunity. For many gov'ts that already generate AQ info but don't yet publicly share, all it could take is a small external incentive and/or internal investment in technical expertise to open data.

Air Quality Stripes have long-term trends of air pollution in many cities across the world. Here is London. Nice work @jimmcquaid.bsky.social & @kirstypringle.bsky.social. airqualitystripes.info/stripes/?con... h/t @edhawkins.org

Hot off the presses this morning is @bsky.app sharing feature for our #AirQualityStripes (as ever thanks to Richard Rigby!) airqualitystripes.info/stripes/

So much is possible in this last 8.88% of the year!

"Only 24 of 54 African nations are set up to measure air quality in some capacity." But here's the GREAT NEWS: This is one of those rare continent-level stats that could readily be turned on its head within the span of the next year -- if we want it to. 1/6 www.forbes.com/sites/jamieh...

What does #AirQuality have to do with children's development? 👶 Cleaner air could improve a child's working memory by 6%, equivalent to four extra weeks of learning per year, according to researchers at @officialuom.bsky.social Explore this issue further 🔽 www.cleanairfund.org/theme/childr...

Air pollution is an economic crisis for its ability to raise healthcare costs and lower productivity through lost work and school days, especially in low-income communities www-thehindu-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.theh...

Few people even know about this; when people are asked in surveys how child mortality has changed the majority says it has stagnated or increased. If you consider that many don't know about humanity's biggest achievement, then it's not surprising that many are so pessimistic about our future.

"We estimated that smoking a single cigarette was equivalent to breathing a daily ambient concentration of PM₂.₅ of 667 μg/m³, assuming an average breathing rate of 18 m³/day and an inhaled dose of 12,000 μg PM₂.₅ mass per cigarette (Pope et al. 2009)."
