Last week, I accompanied 2 Cardiff students to London for the Choix Goncourt programme. With students from 14 other UK universities, they discussed the 4 French novels nominated for the Prix Goncourt.

I'm horrified by Cardiff's VC here: ‘the idea that Wales cannot be global without modern languages, I'm less clear about’. This reveals an appalling lack of understanding of Modern Languages research across the UK, not just in Cardiff wydandiebailey.substack.com/p/in-defence...

Absolutely wonderful and passionate discussions going on this morning in my 2nd year French class around issues of parité, women in politics, feminism, political representation, and EDI. To Cardiff UEB: learning languages is always so much more than learning vocabulary. #SaveCardiffLanguages

Thank you SDN for your letter of support for Cardiff Languages! It’s great to know so many fabulous colleagues are behind us.

So grateful to receive so much international support in the fight to save languages at Cardiff: australiansocietyforfrenchstudies.com/2025/02/10/a...

If you are able and willing to do so, could you please add your voice to our wall of support at the Save Cardiff Modern Languages website: www.savecardifflanguages.org The more voices we have on there from across the world, the better! Thanks and love to all.

Yikes. What the heck?! Bloody hell. 🤬 “Donald Trump issues an executive order, calling for an end to "dangerous, demeaning, and immoral" diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) schemes.” www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cn...

Worth every calorie! 🤤

Very excited that this New Year is starting with the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion guidelines for PGR Supervision resource that I recently created being shared by the Directors of PGR across the Schools of the University, and within the Inclusive Education Project team as well.

Studying Francophone identities with students this year, focusing on stories from New Caledonia, quebecois music, & Côte d'Ivoire art. 2 students gave a presentation on Ivoirian artist Aboudia, & interviewed him on Instagram for the presentation! I don't know whether to be more impressed or jealous!

We are delighted to launch our new WiF OZ podcast, hosted by Josephine Goldman and @besskearney.bsky.social 😊! In the first episode, Beth and Josie talked to our founding President @christiesmbc.bsky.social about being a mum in academia. You can listen to it here: open.spotify.com/show/3EOWoce...

Every academic right now

"Sometimes, our tests will reveal conditions that aren't an emergency, such as an endometriosis or arthritis," the video stated. So what happens, TCH, when your 'non-emergency' condition causes so much bleeding you require an urgent blood transfusion? www.abc.net.au/news/2024-08...

4-year-old son asked me last night why I didn't pick him up sooner from after-school club. I said because I'd needed to finish my work & didn't want to get in trouble. His solution?: "Mum, tell your boss there's a giant spider on their head, & whilst they're looking for it, sneak out the door!" 🤣🥰

Massive thanks to Women in French: Australia and to Beth Kearney and Josie Goldman for the opportunity to record this podcast episode, discussing the founding of Women in French: Australia and navigating various EDI difficulties as a solo parent in academia. open.spotify.com/show/3EOWoce...

Amid the chaos of this week, I'm delighted to see this podcast episode that I was invited to record with the amazing Luna Muñoz released! Such a pleasure to have this opportunity to discuss EDI and solo parenting in academia for the podcast series Academic Misfits.

Wonderful to find an online space populated by academics again! ❤️ 📚 📜

Did you know that 15 UK Universities take part in the annual Choix Goncourt UK, reading the shortlisted books (in French *bien sûr*) before choosing their winner with an announcement during the *Semaine de la Francophonie* at a reception hosted by the French Ambassador! #talent #reading #FranceUK
