There is something special about lakes in Nordic forests, especially with the silence of winter and the way sunlight catches the snow. Scenes like this inspire my writing, as well as my soul. #amwriting #naturephotography #norsemyths #comingsoon #yafantasy

#Sweden just had the worst mass shooting in Swedish history, in a school no less, with 10 casualties. It's still an open investigation, so we know very little. My heart aches for the families and the survivors. This is not supposed to happen. Ever.

I loved writing a scene in my WIP, inspired by the nights we searched for Northern crested newts. Pitch black, silent, and the only illumination was my super headlamp. Yes, students in my Swedish magical Academy are obviously doing fieldwork. How else are they going to see magifauna up close?

Every snowflake is unique. Why? Because its shape evolves as it journeys through the air. Just like humans who are shaped by the journey of life. So when someone calls me a snowflake, I say “yes, and so are you.” #winterphotography #yafantasy #amwriting #lgbtq

Meet the Popa langur, a new monkey species. Already on the brink of extinction. Fewer than 250 remain in Myanmar. Threats: habitat loss, hunting, deforestation, fragmentation. Conservation must act fast. #PopaLangur #Endangered #Deforestation #Fragmentation #PrimateCrisis

Imposter syndrome slowly crawling in and making itself at home. How to cure it? Self-compassion. I have written an incredible story, and I am only doubting myself because I am a new writer. It's a learning curve. #booksky

1.3 percent chance of colliding with Earth. 100% chance of climate catastrophe. Don’t look up.

"Nazis? I hate those guys." —Indiana Jones

“Revival of grotesque climate denialism.” The best way to describe this. It’s like an infection started in one place, no one took it seriously and never treated it, and now it’s spreading, growing and evolving into something grotesque.

Field work taught me how to really see nature, what to look for. Now I'm using those observation skills to build a magical world that feels alive. 🌿✨ How do you transform your professional experience into creative storytelling? #WriterLife #WorldBuilding #CreativeCraft

Some people say that writing politics in their author account will hurt their sales. I solemnly disagree. Authenticity sells better than silence. Your readers want to know the heart behind the words. Speaking up earns respect, which my friends, has a longer-lasting effect than marketing.

“The mead they drink comes from the goat Heidrun, who grazes on the roof of Valhalla.” Reading about Norse Gods and here I'm thinking: why is it so hard to convince the city council to put green roofs on buildings when Valhalla, hall of viking warriors, has one? 🌱🏛️

Fun fact: I am both writing my debut YA Fantasy AND a published author. I know, I'm a walking paradox. The published work? A monograph on a steppe bird in the Iberian Peninsula, studying climate change impacts on conservation. Science & storytelling, that's my jam.

Moonhare (Lepus lunaris) is a species I created for my YA fantasy debut. I just wrote its evolution, distribution, habitat, behaviour and ecology. I might as well publish a special edition with magifauna, with drawings and maps, because why not.

Writing my debut #fantasy novel and exploring mindful #selfpublishing paths. Looking to connect with authors who've found authentic ways to reach future readers without falling through the social media whirlwind 📚✨

There is something beautiful about this day, mystical even. Shortest day of year, the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one.

And then this happens in #Portugal. Police lining up an entire immigrant neighborhood against walls for "preventive searches". When crime prevention becomes an excuse to treat people like criminals based on where they live and what they look like, we've crossed a dangerous line.

#Sweden, once a beacon in humanitarian aid and support for Palestinian refugees, now chooses to defund UNRWA by 2025. Very disappointing, and worse still coming from the first EU nation to recognize #Palestine. The timing though: one day after the UN's overwhelming vote to support UNRWA.

Great news! 🐺🌍 People in Portugal are embracing coexistence with Iberian wolves, showing that harmony between humans and wildlife is possible. A step forward for conservation and coexistence. #IberianWolves #Coexistence #ConservationSuccess www.theportugalnews.com/news/2024-12...

My book follows the rhythm of seasons, so naturally I find myself observing nature with a keen eye, hearing snow crunch beneath my feet, noticing just how the crisp air bites my cheeks. Just this morning, I noticed golden streaks threading through an old birch trunk. I’ve never noticed that before.

Rafah.

Sweden's move to dissolve its Ministry of the Environment and place climate issues under a "Ministry of Climate and Enterprise" shows where priorities lie: business interests over environmental protection. 1/3 www.regeringen.se/pressmeddela...

Deeply honored that work from my team on the climate dimensions of genocide in Palestine was discussed at length at the Intl Court of Justice yesterday. War & militarism are insufficiently accounted for in climate policy; hopefully a strong advisory ruling can start to change that. Starts ~1:41:00

Being a biologist writing fantasy means getting really specific about Nordic daylight patterns just to schedule a magical ceremony properly.

Nobody ever planted a tree in this photo. It was a working gravel pit 30 years ago. We need to get over our obsession with planting trees and let nature do the job. The results are just SO much better. It's also about realising we are not, in fact, central to everything. 🌍

Amnesty International’s new landmark report concludes that #Israeli authorities have committed – and still are committing - genocide against Palestinians in the occupied #Gaza Strip. Full report, out now. www.amnesty.org/en/latest/ne... #EndGazaGenocide

A single tree, standing resilient in the snow—a reminder of quiet strength in the face of harsh winters. Nature’s beauty, even in stillness, speaks volumes. #photogtaphy

Just finished the first draft of my debut #YAFantasy novel, and wow, what a beautiful mess! It’s clear that ideas and characters evolve as you write the book. Now it’s time to polish it up. Can’t wait to share this story! #booksky

A new perspective in Nature Climate Change argues that the discourse around climate tipping points risks "oversimplifying the diverse dynamics of complex natural and human systems and for conveying urgency without fostering a meaningful basis for climate action." www.nature.com/artic...

Proud to contribute to the new monograph on the #LittleBustard (Tetrax tetrax) in Extremadura! My chapter focuses on how climate change is reshaping this species’ habitat and phenology. Protecting biodiversity in a changing climate demands urgent action. extremambiente.juntaex.es/files/biblio...

The tragic truth of the EU’s wolf decision: wolves cause only a fraction of livestock losses, far less than disease or poor husbandry. Yet, folklore persists—fake news from centuries past, woven into the fabric of our societies.

The world’s a mess, and it’s no wonder so many of us are struggling. The inhumanity, the chaos—it’s overwhelming. So I ask you this: when was the last time you sat under a tree, felt the grass under your feet, or let the rain hit your face? Maybe we need more of that reconnection with nature.

As expected, the downlisting of the #wolf Canis lupus at the Bern Convention Standing Committee was approved. A thread on some ins and outs. 1/ ec.europa.eu/commission/p...

Do you smell that? A crisp tang in the air, like fresh ink on untouched pages. A promise. A world waiting just behind the noise, tucked in the backstreets where possibilities come alive and science flourishes. I like it here. Hello world!
