Favorite Music of 2024 No. 2 album: Cigarettes After Sex | X’s My ‘24 recap ends here, with an album that gave the new Cure LP a run for its money. On par with the gorgeous self-titled of 2017. Songs like Baby Blue Movie have a different sense of urgency. Tejano Blue an all-timer. ❤️🖤

Favorite Music of 2024 Unranked album: DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ | Sorcery The soundtrack for my next beach vacation. Seriously, one of my favorite things to do is to take my dog for a walk on the sand, with DJ Sabrina in the earbuds, sun on my face, appreciating life.

Favorite Music of 2024 Unranked album: Gift | Illuminator This kept popping up in my feed, either here or at the other place, so I gave it a shot. I’m not saying it sounds like Slowdive or Ride but I think fans of those bands would enjoy this.

Favorite Music of 2024 Unranked album: Vampire Weekend | Only God Was Above Us What can I say … I still love these guys. Gen-X Cops and Classical fit nicely among their early triumphs, and I dig the closing combo of Pravda and Hope.

Favorite Music of 2024 No. 3 album: Kacey Musgraves | Deeper Well The title track alone gave it a chance at my medal stand. Several other tracks throughout the running order made this one of the more satisfying front-to-back listens for me.

Favorite Music of 2024 No. 1 album: The Cure | Songs of a Lost World We waited 16 years for a new album; we waited two years to hear studio versions of Alone, Endsong, et al.; we all longed for another masterpiece. And we got all that. (Hearing the not-previewed-live All I Ever Am was euphoric.)

Favorite Music of 2024 No. 1 EP: Night Swimming | No Place to Land Like Bleach Lab last year, @nightsswimming.bsky.social shines brightest amongst a crowded field of dreamy/hazy/shoegazey goodness. I look forward to more tunes down the road but these five will do the trick for now.
