kāpēc ne, eju kaut kur, atnākšu kaut kad, man nav jāstrādā (īstenībā man jāstrādā)

For #FindsFriday, a lovely oval wooden bowl or tray from a late-15th-century landfill from Jahu St 6, Tallinn, excavated some years ago. With the winter cold finally making an appearance here, I can just imagine someone slurping some hearty stew & daydreaming about history #archaeology

Prohibition in the USA was repealed #OnThisDay in AD 1933. Alcohol consumption has often been associated with 'criminality and restlessness', such as at the 20th-century working-class community of Vaakunakylä, Finland, where alcohol bottle tops are the most common find. 1/2

Täna olen öko (loobusin seitsmest uudiskirjast), tegelen oma aja efektiivsuse tõstmisega (ma ei pea neid enam kustutama) ning säästmisega (iga tegemata jäänud ost on sääst)

Love the ALT text, the cut not so much

Kellel Helsingisse asja - selline huvitav näitus on seal linnamuuseumis 2. märtsini

Ok ohtlikke manöövreid oli kaasliiklejate poolt selles videos küll, aga ei arvanud, et New Yorgis nii viisakad & normaalse laiusega rattarajad. Millal Tallinn? (never… kuigi TLÜ juures hakkab looma juba, a äkki saaks samal tasandil olla kogu rada & jalakäijateta?) www.instagram.com/reel/DGBUDkd...

For the first time ever, I see this post before the CfP ends 🤠

This is cleavage night in 🇪🇪 isn't it? #Eestilaul

#archaeoweek Fri, Feb 14: had to throw the idea of some actual finds out the door as I had forgotten about a conference, ‘Estonia 1100-1400’ which was live streamed for the entire day. So I spent the day working on some final bits of writing, but then decided to move onto a more monotonous 1/2

head sõbrapäeva

Täna on Viljandis konverents Eesti 1100-1400, mida saab otse vaadata siit: uttv.ee/live?id=36285

Siis kui rauakonkretsioonid pole kunagi su töölauda puruseks teinud ja sa ei kujuta ette, et se kehva analüüsivõime saab kunagi tulevikus pseudovendadele (pasaloogidele?) põhitoiduks

#archaeoweek Thu, Feb 13: I worked on some website stuff quite late so it was nice to keep my eyes away from the screen for a little bit today. Unfortunately, no luck with sorting out the references but figured out what’s the holdup so I’ll be reaching out to a colleague tomorrow for some help 1/3

Muuseumikaart sõbrale? (tegelt endale, sest enda sõber tuleb ka olla) - koodiga 58€ (muidu 65€), kehtib kuni 16.02

Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons: -We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S. -The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous. 🧵⬇️

#archaeoweek Wed, Feb 12: finishing up on the Estonian Swedes at the library - consulted a newspaper from 1819 & 1999, filled in some reference gaps (previous authors have been VERY sparing with refs). Will have to visit the National Archives & then I’m done. Some admin & email sorting lead 1/2

Tue, Feb 11: today I decided to do the reasonable thing & WFH with my runny nose. I had planned to go to an introduction to AI training provided by my employer. I’m quite the pessimist when it comes to the unlimited & unregulated use of AI we see today #archaeoweek #womeninscience 1/5

Here’s the #archaeoweek log then… Mon, Feb 10: started the week strong with two abstract submissions for @archaeologyeaa.bsky.social - a co-authored paper on glass linen smoothers & single-authored paper on metal thimbles. Although I’m mostly known for my glass stuff here, my BA was on

This week, I want to share what my days as an Estonian #archaeologist are like. For background, I work as a FT research fellow at Tallinn University, I’m involved in a project studying changes & early globalisation in the 15th-18th-c Eastern Baltic, but I am also a 1/3
