Shoutout to anyone who has been told how strong they are when they are just trying to survive in the situation they’ve been given 🩵 #chronicillness #chronicpain

People vehemently believe that there are safety nets in place if you become disabled. That no matter what, you have all of your needs met. If you believe this, you’re in for a rude awakening if you ever become disabled.

Disabled people rely on social media for connection & companionship. We might be housebound or bedbound & often have no one in real life who “gets it” The unrelenting negativity of the news cycle takes a toll on us If we unplug, we lose our support network. If we come online, we lose our spoons 🧵

✨ DISABILITY IS NOT A MORAL FAILING!!! ✨ Being #disabled does not make you lesser. It does not negate your personhood, nor does it take away your inherent worth or value. 💖 You ARE enough and have ALWAYS been so. 💖 #chronicillness #mentalhealth #disability #disabilitypride

February is Rare Disease Awareness Month 🦓 #raredisease #chronicillness

Valentine’s thread (chronic illness version) 💕

Living with disabilities is a masterclass in how to handle gaslighting You get it from everyone. Doctors, family, friends, bosses, colleagues A neverending litany of people telling you “it can’t be THAT bad” or “you should just do this” We are the experts in our bodies. Respect us. Listen to us.

If you’ve been healthy your whole life and your concept of healthcare is from TV shows … you’re in for a rude awakening. You don’t get McDreamy or House in real life. Often you get sent packing with no answers, no treatments & no hope. Rinse. Repeat. This is chronic illness.

Almost all of us with chronic illness have experienced the “it’s not going to kill you so what do you want us to do?” Brush off. They seem to think confirming something won’t kill us is all they have to do. What we really want? A diagnosis. Treatment. Improvement to quality of life. Validation

who else has been in this spot? iykyk! #chronicillness
