Without downloading any new pics, what’s your energy going into 2025?

2025; ins & outs In: • Soups • Scandinavia • Public outcry over modern art • Archaeology • 2010s nostalgia • Bob Dylan swifties • Class consciousness • Going to the park Out: • CNN • France • Kpop • F-R-I-E-N-D-S • True Crime • IPAs • Cynicism • Sexiest Man Alive

My dad went on a rant when he heard the next Bond movie might go straight to streaming instead of theaters. This man has been to the movie theater twice in the past 15 years. The fact that not even people who’s upset by theaters going extinct go to the theater probably means we’ve lost, gang.

“Outer…” “SPACE!”

Told my parents I’m a cinephile. Feels good to come out of the Criterion closet.

I like learning about film restoration and preservation, but it’s often stuff like ”here’s a cool thing they did 10 years ago” - what are the best resources to keep up with what’s going on in the field right now? #Filmsky #Filmhistory

Has anyone ever made a joke where they say a very specific number and then follows it up with ”but who’s counting?” I might be on the verge of something INCREDIBLE here!

The enlightened centrist setting up a meeting between the protagonist and villain in a spy thriller: ”Alright, Agent Dipsy will meet you in a *public* place….at 3 a.m” (The joke is that centrist comprimises are always a win for the bad guys 👍🏼)

The dingy wall vs clean wall Notre Dame discussion makes me think of how “silent film” filters always have scratches and other damage. We have a hard time processing old things in a fresh state.

Just had one of those moments where I noticed that a celebrity had gone from being 33 in 2017 to being 40 in 2024 and thought: ”Damn…they sure aged 7 years in that brief period of time, huh?” - and then faced the realization that I, too, has aged 7 years in that brief period of time.

Is it weird that after watching ’Blue Velvet’, ’La Chimera’, and ’Conclave’ this week, it literally took me a full day to realize I had accidentally watched three Isabella Rossellini movies in a row?

Just watched ’La Chimera’, and there’s a moment where some characters purposefully behead a 2000 year old statue and it might genuinely be the most upsetting thing I’ve ever seen in a film. #filmsky

Youtuber: ”I made a video essay analyzing an animated movie” Me: ”Did you really do that? Or did you just summarize the plot for 30 minutes?” Youtuber: ”….I just summarized the plot for 30 minutes 😔”

It’s happening. 18 year old at work has never seen nor heard of ’The Simpsons’ (Nature is healing (come at me, etc))

Post a non-religious picture you think of as holy.

I just got off work and I’m about to watch a MOVIE! It’s the greatest moment of my life!

People aren’t more vain today. Rembrandt would’ve Googled himself too.

”I should have a vintage 1920s film camera in my living room as a decoration!” *Opens up eBay* ”I should not have a vintage 1920s film camera in my living room as a decoration!”

Buster Keaton’s final film, ’A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’, ends with him running (the only person to do it better than Tom Cruise) as the screen fades to credits. And since we don’t see him stop, I like to think of him as still being out there, doing what he does best. immortal.

“THE US FILM INDUSTRY WAS ABLE TO HOLD OFF CENTRALIZED CENSORSHIP FOR 25 YEARS AND PRE-1920S FILM COVERED EVERY TOPIC FROM ABORTION TO PRISON REFORM AND, WHILE REGIONAL BOARDS COULD MAKE CUTS, THEY WERE CAPRICIOUS AND INCONSISTENT, LEAVING AMPLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CODED MESSAGES AND NUDITY…”

If heaven is real, I hope it is getting to play Mario Kart with your favorite people for as long as you want, because it’s never a work-night; while your best friend keeps retelling that one story that happened to you that one time, because it never stops being funny.

People about new film releases at least four times a year: ”They sure don’t make ’em like this anymore”

#Filmsky, what are your most specific lists? I’m pretty proud of this one:

Me at work: ”Tonight, I’m gonna watch all the 2024 films I have to catch up on, rewatch the Mission Impossible franchise, and get through Howard Hawks’ entire filmography” Me when I get home: ”I guess I’ll….open, close, and then reopen some apps for 4 hours before bed”

When people describe cinema with etherial, almost supernatural expressions - ’dancing shadows’, ’ghosts of light’, ’flickering dreams’, etc - love that shit

Rewatching ’Rear Window’, and it’s really funny how Jimmy Stewart’s whole character arc is him trying to overcome the sheer horror of maybe having to marry Grace Kelly.

Oh, you "heard" there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord? Cite your sources, bro. This is how misinformation spreads

This is William A. Wheeler, vice president to Rutherford B. Hayes. I have now officially become the first person on Bluesky to ever mention William A. Wheeler, vice president to Rutherford B. Hayes.

What’s the best performance by an actor in film or TV and why is it Ray Wise as Leland Palmer? Like why is he in ’Jeepers Creeper 2’ instead of having his own national holiday? #Filmsky
