Okay, it's here: Vulnerable research: Reflexivity, decolonisation, and climate politics. This article is something a bit different. I'm arguing for a change of research model in the face of multiple crises, including climate change and ongoing colonial violence. doi.org/10.1177/1369...

Does anyone know of short AI-critical videos that are centred around exploitation of workers in the global south, and / or environmental harm / extractivism? I can find good, long sources (like this), but nothing short. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWHo...

This article looks really interesting, not to mention timely. It's examining the fantasy of climate invulnerability that motivates climate denial and delay among global elites. May be an interesting extension to the literature on motivated ignorance? Open access here:

My IFJP article has gone into an issue! Total buzz for my article to get discussed in the editorial too (the image). The article: doi.org/10.1080/1461...

Went outside to photograph our garden's first daffodil, and met this fella.

Every academic that endorses AI is implicitly aggreeing with management: what we do isn't difficult and specialist and worthy of time and care - a machine can do it. So why pay a person.

"Cardiff University is not in immediate financial difficulties. The university has around £188 million in accessible cash funds..." University leaders just don't want to pay academics. They don't care about research or teaching. That's it.

Two Weeks In The Death Spiral Of Cardiff University, by an anonymous academic. This is truly shocking read. The Cardiff executive board should hang their heads in shame. voice.cymru/two-weeks-in...

It Happened to Me: I think this article's a book...

Sometimes writing about the violence of colonialism feels so impossible that the results almost feel glib. But the alternative is not writing about it which is much worse.

Most racist book you've ever read, written in the 1960s. Review written in the 2010s, "This book really holds up". Every time.

I'll be at this event, covering it for the journal. Do I know anyone going? Bristolians?

I've written my first Conversation article. Been wanting to do this for a while so I'm buzzing tbh.

NEW ARTICLE ✏️ @ckweatherill.bsky.social has an excellent new article for @bisa-ecpwg.bsky.social 'Time to rethink climate in/vulnerability' unpacks the politics of climate change & climate inaction 👉https://www.bisa.ac.uk/members/working-groups/ecp/articles/time-rethink-climate-invulnerability

Debates about (higher) education are not helped by pretending there isn't a fundamental clash of values. Those who are promoting elitist policies are not "stupid" or "mistaken". They are actively trying to make education about reinforcing heirarchies. On purpose.

Pilates needs to fix me. I have too many deadlines for this mood.

Grumpy today. Not only are we losing every argument, the only strategy seems to be constant retreat. AI is happening so we have to work with it. A nazi bought Twitter (to kill it) so we have to leave it. The right is dominating every political conversation, every platform. I'm sick of it.

If you're attending BISA in Belfast and don't want to fly, we've looked into the options. You can get to Belfast via direct Stena Line ferry from Liverpool in England, or Cairnryan in Scotland. Alternatively, you can get a ferry to Dublin from Holyhead in Wales and travel north from there.

"[x] is a distraction" is the constant refrain of those incapable of reading politics beyond the level of the news cycle. The attack on DEI isn't a comms strategy. Its an agenda to resegregate the workforce. The trade war will also bring severe material harm to real people. All of this is important.

No, I do not think we should use gAI to build literature reviews, and we definitely shouldn't be teaching faculty how to do this, this is not just some fancy new search engine, what on earth is wrong with you and why are you doing this ffs

Spent the day on campus recording teaching audios, including one with Joanne Yao. I've got a cool job.

Horrendous news from Cardiff. Solidarity with the branch. Higher Education is being defunded and dismantled right before our eyes. This is absolutely a political choice which must be resisted by the whole of UCU

A case where I want to sit and read a Special Issue like a book.

Article accepted! Really nervous about this one. Let's see.

I've written a blog: Fantasies of invulnerability are not benign, they are dangerous. Inaction in the face of climate change isn’t just complacency; it is a violent defence of power and wealth distributions that are in opposition to a safe and liveable world. www.bisa.ac.uk/members/work...

A search engine without links to sources, that can't access information it hasn't been fed. A dubious technology, solving no existing problem except labour, being forced down our throats by the worst people in the world.
