RIP Marianne Faithfull. Four years I ago I sat in on a conversation between her and Courtney Love. She was very ill but indomitable. www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

Once more, but with make up. PEOPLE LIKE STARS, my new middle grade contemporary mystery is out today. Three young people. A stolen baby. A family secret. A grumpy tattooed woman of a certain age who definitely bears absolutely no resemblance to anyone I know. Or am. Cover #michellebrackenborough

Happy new year! In 2024, I read 232 books (lots of them very short). These were my favourite children's and YA books, all of which will be enjoyed by adults as well as younger readers. @catherinebruton.bsky.social @clarefurniss.bsky.social @jprosewriter.bsky.social @sarahcrossan.bsky.social

In light of the findings in the CLPE Reflecting Realities report, in 2025 I’m going to be starting regular free Ask Me Anything Zoom sessions for UK children’s writers of colour and BookTrust will host the first in March to help reach more writers! 📚

Another book I loved this year was Bird Boy by Catherine Bruton. When Will and Omar find an injured baby osprey in the wild, they try to keep her alive. Full of hope and written with such heart and sensitivity, it made me cry. Age 10+ #BookElves2024 #LateLateToyShow

One of my favourite YA novels of the year is Apocalypse Cow by O. R. Sorrell (Age 15+). #BookElves2024 Holy cow, this book is fun! A riotous LGBTQ+ dystopian horror, full of longing, secrets, and deadly animals, it had me gripped from start to finish.

One of the purest joys of the writing life is seeing brilliant friends get the acclaim they deserve! Fantastic shortlist and I’m so happy to see Bird Boy on it 👏👏👏

Lucky enough to see this yesterday with my teens and it was completely joyous. Ncuti Gatwa as dazzling as you’d expect and Sharon D Clarke SPECTACULAR as Lady Bracknell 😍

🔊 Our 7th annual #ReflectingRealities report is out now! This year’s report shows a significant drop in the presence of racially minoritised characters in books published for children in 2023 in the UK.

YA authors, we have a YA starter pack here. We're adding people here 💕 go.bsky.app/RJY3oLN #kidlituk

Yikes, due to the weather we are unsurprisingly quiet today, a bit nerve wracking for small businesses on a Saturday. So, here’s a look at our current bestsellers and a selection of books we also love. All available here at the shop and online rocketshipbookshop.co.uk/product-cate...
