If Britain did this to Derry or Dublin as a collective punishment for IRA bombs, or Spain did this to Barcelona for the acts of ETA, you’d imagine there would be universal outrage. Yet Israel’s leveling of Gaza and its civilian population is rationalized as legitimate and proportionate? #speirgorm

"Number 10 is wary of any move that might be depicted as “undoing Brexit”, but polling tells us that a chunky majority of Britons now devoutly wish that it could be undone."

Why are people wanting to use AI to make dolls of themselves? Star Trek's Data, not to mention Barbie in the film, and Pinocchio in the story we all know, all wanted to become real. This craze is a complete reversal. What is going on here?

These men are brigands.

The hostile environment in the US is already impacting their travel industry Be notable if any transatlantic airlines close in coming months Graphic by @jburnmurdoch.ft.com

Love this. I wrote a poem about a minotaur once, taking my inspiration from Picasso, but this one has a wonderful weary stillness.

Hurl yourself into the alluring chaos that is the brand new issue of Viridine Literary! Spinning around somewhere inside it is my surrealist poem, 'Winter Wedding'... plus all kinds of terrific visual art and writing. Thanks To Romy and Roger for putting together a great read.

Just watched 'Common People', the first episode of the new season of Black Mirror. My, that was dark. Reminded me in many ways of I, Daniel Blake'. Only with more tech. 📺

Another appalling story. One can only assume the American authorities now actively want the rest of the world to despise them. PS: it's working.

The USA is a fascist dictatorship.

FFS. It makes that line from 'The Graduate' even more chilling, doesn't it?

A fascinating long(ish) read which seeks to explore the differences between nostalgia and sentimentality.

This is truly cowardly and disgusting.

The comparison to Minority Report—Philip K. Dick’s 1956 story, later adapted into a 2002 film—is hard to avoid. In both, people are flagged not by witnesses or evidence, but by prediction systems that turn patterns into verdicts. freedomnews.org.uk/2025/04/11/h...

What is this, a Trump/ICE tribute act? My son goes to a Turkish barber to get his hair cut.

The US is utter chaos. Complete and utter chaos, for at least another four years and probably long into the future. Any British government working in the national interest will be investigating how to quickly reduce our exposure to it.

"It would be a mistake to invest too much diplomatic capital in pursuit of marginal favours from a regime that hates democracy and thinks reciprocity is for penguins."

"Some of Trump's claims on trade are unsubstantiated or even false." I do enjoy the BBC's genteel understatement.

A sad day: just experienced my first BlueSky bully. Really went for me over my post expressing concern for the possible impact of US trade deals on the NHS.Tried to engage, but he was insulting and aggressive. Eventually had to block. Was surprised as he was Canadian and they're usually lovely! 😁

Again, Starmer's Labour appears to be about to make a profoundly wrong call. Tax breaks for the people providing the platforms to break our society. So insightful, such understanding.

Happy Margaret Thatcher is Still Dead Day to all who celebrate. The stake through her heart still holds.

Is it me, or does Wes Streeting look like a tailor's dummy onto which someone's digitally projected a face?

OK so why are you selling British creatives out to US tech companies
