To rectify, here are my favorite magical realism books, one a bit horror the other a bit fantasy, by Indigenous authors for more diverse book recommendations.

Feels weird to read The Bear during Indigenous People's Month. It was summarized as post-apocalyptic, but feels like that was just a bandaid to a story about a girl learning how to survive with the help of animals. But playing Horizon Zero Dawn while listening to the audiobook felt right.

The customization is what got me. You can morph every bit. Leveling up means gathering more cool shit to wear. My hair color #changes once a week, minimum. So I didn’t have a problem when my real hair started tinting in whatever direction I had that weekend. Saved me money on dye & bleach. #vss365
