Holy fuck this is bad. ADH TV has a partnership with Newsmax, the far-right disinformation network in the USA that makes Fox News look good. At the executive level, ADH TV is a real who's who of fuckwittery. Unadulterated conspiracy theory is now coming to free-to-air in Australia's regions.

Anybody who believes Dutton will match Albanese's Medicare promise "dollar for dollar" - I've got a bridge to sell - Medicare is a complete anathema for the LNP - it's so far out of their increasingly Trumpian ideology it's almost at the ISS.

1. Masks are tools used to mitigate the risk of infection by airborne pathogens, including, of course, SARS-CoV-2. The politicisation and the consequent symbolisation of masking has, overall, reduced their use. This is true whether you are anti or pro masking.

@feryalclark.bsky.social I have just completed the gov. consultation on AI. Corporations should never have been permitted to data mine in the first place to develop AI models without giving full transparency and paying a fee to individual composers or ability to opt out. The law does not go 🧵

Judith Butler: "Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic, because that means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice, and a third, a fourth, and then what happens?"

In his senate hearings, RFK Jr said he was committed to the issue of Long Covid Yet here we are…”Secretary of Health and Human Services shall terminate the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Long COVID” What is he committed to doing? Wellness farms. “Reparenting”. Its open season on chronic illness

Imagine being rich enough to do anything you want and choosing to take food and medicine from starving children to give yourself even more money.

Here's my list of (as of now) 542 Australian researchers, communicators and experts working on issues related to climate change, energy, the environment and ecology. Pin it for a ready-made feed of good people doing important work. I am adding to it constantly, so it will keep growing as I do.

Surprise! YouGov is a British-owned private company FOR PROFIT. Not, as the name implies, connected to the govt. So, there is profit to be made predicting outcomes, especially if certain ppl pay lots for it. Shame on the abc for sucking this sh*t take up like cool aid. theaimn.net/yougov-no-im...

Why do so many feel like they've fallen behind? It's not because of immigrants, trans people, DEI, the “deep state,” or any other bogeyman trotted out by the GOP.  It's because big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains.

People shocked by this statement are likening it to one made by fascist dictators. It's worse: this is the self-justfication used by terrorists everywhere

🧵 Just to recap what is happening, since public health has gone AWOL: * This is the worst flu season in 15 years. Not just number of cases but number of *severe* cases. 1/

I’ve heard some stories recently of people complying with fascists’ demands after they were threatened. As a violence researcher (and someone who has received a good deal of threats), everyone should know that complying will not save you. It only teaches the threatener that threats work.

Our latest Double Down News video, explaining just how billionaire power now operates and what it's doing to us. And why we need to create billionaire-free societies.

Listening to an expert on ABC News radio, the electoral reforms will mean that an Independant candidate can only receive up to a $50k donation in an electoral cycle, whereas a major party candidate could get up to $1 million. Level playing field 🤔 #auspol

Tania Lawrence lists examples of shocking wasteful spending under the fmr LNP govt inc billions on Robodebt & half a billion+extras to Paladin. Says despite serious breaches, dodgy tender process & an AFP investigation on foot Dutton kept renewing Paladin’s contract.💥 youtu.be/gZPe17deVYE?...

Two days after @albomp.bsky.social gifted $800M of our money to pay for US shipyard investment and jobs, the Labor Govt has refused to disclose #AUKUS cost sharing arrangements. But I guess we know what sort of deal Richard Marles got. Pity poor taxpayers. #FOI appeal lodged! #368B #auspol

Apparently Australia is flooding the US with aluminium. FMD this is such a stupid fight

"The Trump tariffs on our aluminium are a major test for the Albanese govt, could determine the election." FMD. Aluminium articles account for a bit over 1% of all our exports and just 13% of that goes to the USA. We really need to stop acting like pleasing Trump is vital to our economy

Tech bros. Billionaires. They told us they were going to use the wealth they’d gathered from us to change the world and make it a better place. Now they see better profits in the old, patriarchal, colonising ways. It’s not ignorance, it’s a chosen path, knowing better. The worst of humanity.

#auspol

#aukus and Trump’s tariffs. The Albanese govt just handed over $800m to the U.S. with no tangible return for that money, no guarantees of anything. Next thing Aussies get hit with his trade tariffs. It’s time for sanity; our govt should not hand over another cent for this ridiculous project #auspol

Graham Perrett is a good one. Sorry to see him leave parliament live.australiainstitute.org.au

I’m retiring soon, so this LNP proposal for everyone receiving a pension to be on an indue card is terrifying. I can’t think of anything worse for older citizens having this indignity bestowed on them as they finally get to retire from the workforce. Just one of MANY reasons not to vote for the LNP!

We do all realise, do we not #auspol, that Dutton's cashless social security plans, including age pensions, is merely so all the money can be spent at retailers etc of HIS (and his ministers) choice? No fresh vegetables at farmers' markets, etc etc. Any of us can be on social security TOMORROW!

The next time Dutton wants to impose a Medicare co-payment, reduce bulk billing, underfund public hospitals. The next time he talks about privatising anything, Show him this graph. #auspol

Same chart showing all OECD countries. USA is the worst of all outliers. Which is what happens when private insurance companies run the system.

I fully support the calls for tougher hate speech laws but draw the line at rushing through extreme measures like mandatory sentencing as it sets a dangerous precedent.

FYI:

Some general home truths here. As @richarddenniss.bsky.social and team keep telling us, it’s not so much how much there is in the government kitty, it’s about priorities.

The chance of asteroid 2024 YR4 hitting out planet in 2032 is now 1.5%, or 1 in 67. The OVERWHELMING likelihood is that the asteroid will miss Earth. But for the first time ever, we might have to seriously consider a deflection mission soon. Let me explain. 🧵 (1/x)
