#BookReview of The Tale of Truthwater Lake by Emma Carroll. I enjoyed the book but feel it was slightly (dare I say it) miss sold. From the extract on the blurb, I was expecting something magical. But I finished it in a day so that is a good sign! crowvusbookblog.blogspot.com/2025/01/mgmo...

I love the little bits of humour in my course textbooks. Simple things.

Well, none of the chickens were particularly pleased with being moved from their house but the storm meant they had to make a temporary move to the garage. Now all safely back in their home. ❀ #smallholding

So, in their latest newsletter, @crowvuslit.bsky.social provided a prompt for the start of a short story, just for a bit of fun. Here's my response! #broch #folklore #Caithness #Orkney

Ooh, look what I found for preorder. Come on, Amazon, when are you going to start preorders for paperbacks? www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DTQ1LXCS #mglit #kidlit #BookSky

#amediting... Did you know that it is surprisingly easy to swap wars for ears? Something to do with the w and e being next door to each other. πŸ˜‚ #WritingCommunity

I'm not going to lie. I'm a bit concerned about Jess... #spaniellife

Great idea!

Long day at work tomorrow, but now I'm curled up in front of the fire, in my PJs, avoiding redrafting my novel. Ah, this is the life! Here's the start of my settings series (3rd Monday of the month) for #MGMonday... crowvusbookblog.blogspot.com/2025/01/mgmo... #BookSky #kidlit

I have just discovered #BookSky! I'm currently reading novel submissions, but will be getting back to middle grade books soon. I'm aiming to review 1 #mglit book a month to keep up with it while still doing my job and degree. Just finished this one...

I went out to take photos this morning and the dogs got excited by the frostiness. Cue lots of charging around the garden and nipping chins. #spaniellife

Drucilla the Light Sussex showing off her plumage but Saldoni and Winnie are not bothered. They are more bothered by the corn that was left over from yesterday. #Caithness #smallholding #selfsufficiency

No energy to do any redrafting tonight, but I have laughed far too much!

The book cover for Doorway to the Sunset is just about finalised, in plenty of time for the cover reveal on 4th March! Now I just have to resist the urge to splash it around social media before then... #mglit #CoverReveal

Happy #MGMonday! Let's talk about genres in middle grade, and one of my pet peeves... how middle grade is mistakenly seen as a genre itself. #WritingCommunity

I'm currently in the process of redesigning my website. I've not had an author website for several months, and it's on the to-do list for January. What are your author new year resolutions, #writingcommunity?

#FridayIndiesApril 16th In Doorway to the Sunset (out this July! Argh!), the characters are terrorised by the Ennedi, a mythical cat creature which I stole from mythology. As Freya points out, as the characters can turn into birds, a giant cat to counteract them makes sense. #mglit

It's the 1st day back at work, so 😴 but... #FantasyIndiesApril 15th Jeremy is definitely a nature lover, but keeps his obsession under wraps in case it puts off his new friend. He needn't worry, though, since Ben is just happy to have him as a friend, obsessions and all.

#FantasyIndiesApril 14th Before I moved somewhere with a conservatory, my characters would spend a hot day in the glass room. Now I know that only masochists would do that! πŸ₯΅ They would probably take the opportunity to stretch their wings, flying a few laps around the castle.

#FantasyIndiesApril 13th #SaturdaySnippet "Jeremy had never been very good at making friends. Well, not with people his own age anyway. He had friends, but they were all grown ups..." Of course, Jeremy makes a friend, pivotal to the story's plot!

#FantasyIndiesApril Free Friday! My #mglit series is about people who can turn into birds. Each species of bird is a different tribe. Sitting on the steps to my house this morning, listening to the goldfinches, robins, curlews and pheasants, I wondered what their tribes would be like.

A distressing day but to cheer me up, I'll see what the #FantasyIndiesApril task is today. Doorway to the Sunset (out in July! EEK!) takes place in the summer holidays, as many great #mglit books do! Let's get school out the way and have fun on adventures! #WritingCommunity

10th #FantasyIndiesApril By the end of Taking Wing, Freya misses the semblance of normality she used to have. By the start of Doorway to the Sunset (out this July!), she misses her new friends. #kidlit #mglit #WritingCommunity

9th #FantasyIndiesApril Difficult! Freya is street smart, in a way, but also a bit of a liability, and is afraid of her own abilities. She doesn't read a lot in the series, but I imagine she reads for necessity, preferring non fiction to stories. Tough one! But I'd say street smart.

#FantasyIndiesApril 8th No mention of tattoos, mostly because it's a middle grade book. That being said, it's likely many of my characters have tattoos because they've been around since Anglo Saxon times. And this is where I reread the Q and realise it says 'taboos' or something. #WritingCommunity

I just bought some quail!! Picking them up on Tuesday. πŸ˜€πŸ™„

7th April #FantasyIndiesApril Challenging? That would have to be the redrafting phase, which I'm on with at the moment, before sending it to my wonderful editor! As I redraft it, I'm having to change all the cheesy, ridiculous parts I'd forgotten about!! Send help! #WritingCommunity

I bought another chicken coop. It's a disease. #smallholding

#FantasyIndiesApril: Demand β€œThe tusks,” the skeleton creaked. With the absence of a tongue, Jeremy wasn’t sure how it spoke. It didn’t open its mouth, but its voice echoed through the skull, and around the church. Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_dv... Link: www.amazon.co.uk/Heartstone-m...

A stunning sunset here at Stempster #Caithness! Made even better by the fact we haven't seen the sun in 6 days. #April

It's great to get back into the swing of things, #WritingCommunity! Today, I'm in Thurso with Crowvus for the first fair of the year! #amreading #indieapril
