Last year, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Chao Liu as a guest editor for a special collection on the role of plant community and diversity in ecosystem #restoration in the Canadian Journal of Botany 🌿 I'm thrilled to share that the introduction piece is now published! 🎉 shorturl.at/Foz8t

Exclusive: Federal workers have filed an emergency motion requesting a restraining order to disconnect the DOGE server that's being used to conduct Trump's "deferred resignation program." The workers had previously accused DOGE of illegally bypassing a mandated privacy audit. By me at @wired.com:

Judge rules that Black church in DC, which won a $2.8 million default judgment against the Proud Boys, now gains control over the trademark “Proud Boys.” The far-right group is barred from selling any related merchandise or symbols without the consent of the church. Gift link:

On #WorldCancerDay I'm finally being released from the hospital after being admitted w/ a fever due to my low white blood cell counts. I don't know how I'm going to get through my chemo w/ my 8 & 11 yr olds bringing in all sorts of things circulating in schools. Please @fordnation, #CleanTheAir

EMERGENCY PIECE: Previous reports that Musk's DOGE programmers only have "read only" access is inaccurate. I can confirm what @wired.com first reported at 1 AM today that they have Read & WRITE access with a source in BFS referring to this as "apocalyptic" www.crisesnotes.com/day-five-of-...

Outrageous action by UK government in giving lengthy prison sentences to climate protestors.

Well there was that one time we figured out how to make CAR-T cells work and fundamentally changed the way cancer is treated.

Among the most agile of flying creatures, dragonflies have evolved to perform quick aerial maneuvers both to attract mates and to catch prey midair. Now, researchers have documented and explained a unique stunt the insects perform so quickly most people never see it. scim.ag/40mKKBI

Labour's rivers policy is unbelievable. 1. Steve Reed, the Environment Secretary, has decided our rivers are insufficiently polluted with chicken shit, so he’s loosening the rules. Never mind that it's the primary cause of rivercide in the Welsh border region. www.theguardian.com/environment/... 🧵

The irony of this is that the Bastrop area where Musk is moving Twitter's headquarters is surrounded by the ruins of the Bastrop County Complex fire, the largest and most costly fire in Texas history, which happened in 2011. 32,000 acres burned, 2 people killed. It took 55 days to contain it.

I joke with my other celiac pals about the “gluten-free tax,” the extra we have to pay for gluten free versions of staples like pasta or bread But Girl Scouts don’t charge a gluten-free tax, their gluten-free cookies are the same price as the rest, making them some of the cheapest GF cookies around

Good lesson for Toronto, with it's overcrowded roads.

Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke is such a badass that I think we all know after her powerful haka. But her biography exists only in 18 languages, & she is considered of low importance for New Zealand: Politics, excluded & neglected from women's & Indigenous peoples projects. Podcast below to the rescue! 🤓

All #caribou herds in Quebec are declining, some going extinct, mostly due to habitat loss from logging and road building. The Innu Nation of Pessamit are seeking to create a protected area where the remaining 200 caribou of Pipmuakan can continue to live freely — and eventually make a comeback. 🌐🌎

I'm an associate editor at some journals. When I compile a list of possible reviewers, the journal has a database from which suggestions are drawn. I'd like to know whether any journal has found that such databases have been corrupted, and which journals have checked? #science #review #peerreview

Ah, I see today is "type in your address and let @propublica.org make you super depressed" day. My neighborhood risk is significantly above the midpoint of the cancer risk range. Not thrilled! projects.propublica.org/formaldehyde...

One of the highlights of studying my local Wasp Spiders (Argiope bruennichi) last year was seeing Hornets (Vespa crabro) taking them as prey. The Hornet flew low, banging webs to locate a spider. It grabbed a spider, which clung to its web, the Hornet chewed its legs off to remove it from the web.
