Hmm good question! I prefer to have them named fairly quickly into the book, as it helps ground the reader into the story! But also prefer to avoid it awkwardly being interjected in. So, the soonest time that it can be included naturally into the text.

I'd love to share how our submissions are broken down by genre, but QM doesn't appear to track that per month unfortunately! (And I definitely don't have the time to sit and count them myself hahah)

Interesting question! I wouldn't say it's a flawed theory, but also not completely without faults, because (at least for me), we don't usually go into it committing to sign a specific genre, so you are in a way still up against everyone in the inbox.
