If there’s one thing I’ve taken away from reporting on the current DOGE collection of govt data, it is that the people who’ve previously spent their careers carefully handling this information believe there is almost no limit to how it could be abused (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

The notion that the US has been “ripped off” — even as it crushed the entire planet on cross-border fund flows for the past five years — is absolutely hilarious. 🤡 (via GS desk/Pasquariello)

This is nonsense

The nonprofit operated by the wife of former Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson violated federal regulations, claimed unallowable costs, and failed to keep important records, according to an administrative law judge.

Jeffries: "If you work hard and pay by the rules, you should be able to live a comfortable life ... instead of leaning into that vision of bringing the American dream to life, this Republican budget is actually doing the exact opposite."

China and its propagandists *couldn't be happier* with Trump and Musk. The state-run People's Daily, for instance, recently praised DOGE for "confirm[ing] what critics have long argued: The United States is not a beacon of democracy, but a global engine of instability."

lol good one sir

These charges are so stupid. There was an ICE agent **in the elevator** with the defendant after he left the courtroom. But oh yeah, the state judge somehow obstructed ICE because she let the defendant leave the courtroom through a side entrance. The Trump DOJ is run by morons and thugs.

Grateful to WaPo editors for putting this story on the front page today. And appreciate incredible colleagues like @faizsays.bsky.social, @jeffstein.bsky.social, @hannahnatanson.bsky.social, @emilydavies.bsky.social and many more as we’ve teamed up to cover the tentacles of DOGE.

Drop everything and read this now. www.liberalcurrents.com/the-present-...

I made a video for my High School English class comparing Trump’s rhetoric and deportations to the Holocaust. My English teacher said that I should post it so here it is.

Always a must read and the only reason you need to subscribe to the Philly Inquirer (though plenty of other worthwhile journalists and local news!)

After meeting with Khalil today, his story reminds us that this betrayal and experience should have never happened. We have a moral obligation to stand with and unequivocally call out the injustices Mahmoud Khalil and too many others are suffering from at the hand of this administration.

Indeed I’m fearful. We aren’t testing much any more. We’re firing everyone in govt who can help and stripping funding from academic & industry scientists who can fill the gaps. H5N1 is a real threat & US policy puts us all at risk. Me & colleagues Kay Russo, Kamran Khan, & Keith Poulsen discuss👇🏻

once again reminding folks that putting top secret information onto your phone is illegal and unsafe regardless of who you add to the chat or what app you choose to send it with. Even if you only add the one person who should get it, and you only use signal, it is still illegal and unsafe.

Rep. Nancy Mace proudly posted a video of herself yelling, “Fuck you!” at a constituent in a store who asked her whether she plans to hold any more town halls this year. Watch ⤵️

donald trump: we’re holding all the cards china: did you check where those cards are made

An unnamed CFPB employee who participated in the agency's layoff decisions says in a sworn statement that its leaders were aware that their approach violated a court order and instructed them to proceed anyway. "All that mattered was the numbers."

Katherine Maher, president and CEO of National Public Radio, talks with NPR's Mary Louise Kelly about the White House proposal to eliminate federal funding for public media.

This is how Trump plans to stay in power. 😳👇

The best thing to ever happen to Pablo… Leaving ESPN He’s good at this!

There was so much music going on, I had to hop on the set 🥁

"The bond market is not like the Supreme Court, or Paul Weiss, or Columbia University, or any of the other institutions Trump has conquered, co-opted, or corrupted." "He cannot scare it into submission. He cannot bribe it." from @jvl.bsky.social www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-fina...

Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not. An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.

This is the sort of thing that sounds like a small deal if you’re not familiar with it. If you are, then you know it’s a very, very big deal.

Step aside Schumer. Senator Chris Murphy @chrismurphyct.bsky.social is way more prepared to meet this moment and lead the dems. youtu.be/7aDbEmHo9Fo

Welp, got an answer to this question: Apparently the answer is no tariffs are being collected. Trump broke the system www.cnbc.com/2025/04/11/c...

Any night in which Stephen Miller is big mad is a good night for America.

The rest of the tariffs are “on pause” for 90 days. So all the fuckery can start all over again. That means that the world economy is hanging on Trump’s latest arbitrary whim, which can move trillions of dollars with a social media post. open.substack.com/pub/charlies...

China is crushing us with their AI 🤣

It's not just his delusion that tariffs will bring manufacturing jobs back. It's the paranoia, and the sense that trade is somehow rigged. @saletan.bsky.social on Trump's big tariff lie:

An administration filled with antisemites can’t expect us to believe that this is about fighting antisemitism. They are weaponizing antisemitism to advance a xenophobic agenda. Fighting antisemitism requires fighting for a strong democracy, not hatred and authoritarianism.

No crimes alleged here. Just pure political retribution for calling out his lies. Thank Roberts.

Fact check: true www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

The tariff policy changes every ten minutes. What a joke. It’s nuclear grade incompetence that would be laughable except they’re ruining people’s lives for sport. Just shameful.

“Their ballots were accepted. Their ballots were counted. The results were canvassed. None of these challenged voters was given any reason to believe their vote would not be counted on election day or included in the final tallies.”

The SAVE ACT IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY It will block access to vote, gut the National Voter Registration Act, and lead to voter purges. We must stop this bill! #HandsOffHerVote

There is no plan. And if someone from the administration tells you there is, they’re lying to you. Lather, rinse, repeat

I supported the party that believed the 2020 election was stolen, that J6 was an inside job AND ALSO a patriotic day of love, that Covid vaccines were a bio weapon, that climate change is a hoax, and that Obama was born in Kenya…and I expected economic rationality to prevail.

US campuses haven't always lived up to the potential for what they could be: spaces for dissent in an unfree world. But that potential has done a lot of good, even when it's been more aspirational than real. And now that dream—creating free spaces in an unfree world—is slipping through our fingers.
