This year the Legislature passed SB 39, a bill to ban predatory lending schemes that saw some payday lenders charge interest rates of over 500%. It was supported by Food Bank of Alaska, Alaska Children’s Trust, AARP and YWCA Alaska. Gov. Dunleavy just vetoed it.
