@prisonculture.bsky.social and I have been encouraging people to read chapter six of our book, Let This Radicalize You, which deals with the question of "violence" in social movements. We have decided to share the chapter publicly, to offer some context and grounding for the current conversation.

I was also skeptical of “defund the police.” I’ve thought on it and read more since. For folks interested in learning more on police abolition and why police reform has failed, and will continue to fail, I recommend reading “The End of Policing” by Alex S. Vitale www.versobooks.com/products/178...

This feels like it belongs in an “Onion article or real life?” quiz

In SF? Put your protest energy to use by joining the picket of the INS office at 478 Tehama where ICE for the first time ever told folks to report for processing on a Saturday. 🤔 Shut it down!

Bay Area #nokings protesters! There is still a lot to do, and many hands make light work. Consider donating time or money to one of these local groups- www.larazacrc.org/donate sfildc.org/get-involved/ baylegal.org/get-involved... donorbox.org/save-lyon-ma... larkinstreetyouth.org/donate/

How many times did we fucking tell you. You gave up on wearing masks. You let them demonize masks. So they got to write the rules. And the rules are cops “discretion” is that disabled people should be arrested. Because when ableds get to decide who is actually disabled, we lose. Every time.

Despite warnings from the law enforcement not to attend today’s No Kings rally after this mornings shooting of Minnesota lawmakers with the killer on the lose, the No Kings Rally is happening at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

We have entered the "The police is saying that if the police is at your door you are not safe call the police immediately" stage of making America great again

Printing out zines and talking with folks, connecting them to local projects, and building real connections is probably one of the best ways to push back against anyone that's been subjected to years of memes from Occupy Democrats.

New Yorkers scream out each officer’s lawsuits against them for excessive force and more upon their city, right to their faces while protesting.

AI is bad of course but this is also yet another story about how there really isn't anyone you can call if a friend or loved one is having a potentially dangerous mental health episode

The Trump tax cut is a massive wealth transfer from the poorest to the wealthiest. Contrast that with Build Back Better, which helped those at the bottom of the income distribution. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

This article is insane. The same person who got the permit for the insurrection rally on the ellipse got the permit for this?

Another terrific scoop from @marisakabas.bsky.social www.thehandbasket.co/p/ice-warran...

I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentally…it seems the file has breached containment…like it’s available for anyone to print or hand out 👀⚖️ toonyart.com/s/PSZine.pdf

Fun fact: in the 1960s, Civil Rights protestors were given literal classes on nonviolent protest; they didn't all just spontaneously know what to do. So, if you're planning on showing up, this weekend: read this comic. And if you're staying home, signal-boost it/link it around.

We've just updated the @wired.com guide to protecting your privacy while attending protests with the latest best practices. @agreenberg.bsky.social and @lhn.bsky.social report: www.wired.com/story/how-to...

you do not need to sign up for a protest you do not need to aign up for a protest you do not need to sign up for a protest people... don't put your names on a list seriously these lists and sign ups are used by authorities to arrest you easier YOU. DO NOT. NEED. TO SIGN UP. FOR PROTESTS.

see what you need to understand is that they’re coming hard at california bc if they can take us down then it tells the smaller states there’s no point in fighting. we’re the bellwether. that’s why it’s so important we stop this shit NOW.

The end goal of activism and organizing is to make people's lives better, not to elect Democrats. The protests and actions which spurred the Warren Court saved and improved hundreds of thousands of lives without the goal of electing a single person.

i’m watching a livestream right now where the horse cops are using the horses to literally run at protesters who weren’t being violent imagine if you were sitting down

I’ve never forgotten this picture from 2016 and how it completely reshaped my understanding of how the media covers protests.

“The law will not stop Trump’s attack on L.A., because laws do not stop authoritarians. Only the people can do that. And the people, a majority of them, elected Trump to do exactly what he is doing: use violence against the Americans they disagree with.”

Normalize retirement and not dying on the job. Seriously these folks have pensions! Why aren’t they using them and enjoying life?

This was the plan the entire time and it was always going to be targeted towards Democratic run cities. It’s not about law and order. It’s about controlling by force the areas where Trump does not control by ideology.

This is a great list of which Democrats to primary

Fuck I.C.E. I.C.E. Baby

Everyone saw Grand Park's hot pink benches being stacked into a barricade on Sunday. What an exceptional statement from RIOS, the benches' designers instagram.com/rios.imagines "These pieces were designed to move, adapt, welcome, connect — and now protect"

The Lord of the Rings films are older than ICE. The Matrix is older than ICE. Legally Blonde is older than ICE. We're not talking about a venerable American institution. We're talking about post-9/11 Patriot Act overreach. Claw that power back. Destroy ICE.

Love how LA is in a budget crisis but we can pay for cops overtime to do this dumb shit

And this doesn’t factor in how much all the overkill police with all their overtime costs that Mayor Bass and Gov Newsom is tossing at protestors.
