Check out my latest accessibility review, this time for Great Western Trail: Second Edition! "...the game provides mostly accessible components for colorblind and low-vision players, with some exceptions."

Announcing my schedule for @orcacon.bsky.social! On Saturday we're talking Accessibility in Gaming and then @colorblindgames.bsky.social and I will be doing a live Color Vision mod. On Sunday - a LIVE episode recording of the podcast with none other than @ourfamplaysgames.bsky.social !

Today is World Diabetes Day. I have type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that is unpreventable, currently incurable, and requires constant monitoring and attention for the rest of my life. I use an insulin pump and CGM to do so, which helps, but it still is a lot of mental and physical energy.

I'm seeing a similar pattern that @ruelgaviola.bsky.social identifies in his post, including a step back in color vision accessibility from some publishers that were previously rock stars in this area. Check out his excellent articles!

Living inside Calico's craft room, Knitting Circle is a pleasant blend of breezy and brain-burny, with gameplay closer to Verdant or Cascadia. See my full preview here! @flatoutgames.bsky.social @emilykeepskitties.bsky.social @bethsobel.bsky.social colorblindgames.com/2024/11/03/c...

Bumping this up again, as there are still a few hours of the live conference this afternoon PT. I've learned so much as I've been able to dip into a few sessions. AND the full set of presentations will be available after the event!

I'm hoping to join a few of these sessions live (virtually) this year! #GAconf is a professional conference for the games industry, focused on accessibility. It's run by the IGDA Game Acessibility SIG.

Making good use of the game table this weekend! - Star Wars The Deckbuilding Game is my most-played of 2024! - Knitting Circle, the next puzzly tile-layer from @flatoutgames.bsky.social - designed by @emilykeepskitties.bsky.social w/ art by @bethsobel.bsky.social, is on Kickstarter now!

I'm enjoying some solo plays of Apiary - an excellent worker placement game from 2023 designed by @connievdc.bsky.social !! (art by Kwanchai Moriya; published by Stonemaier Games; freelance proofreading by me & several others) If you haven't tried Apiary yet, I highly recommend it!

Great review from @tlance8.bsky.social via @comicbookyeti.bsky.social for Falling Skies! I appreciated Tyler's accessibility assessment as part of the review. I've been able to play it without issues, but other colorblind players could have concerns. Tyler describes this well in the review.

Quirky Circuits is a quick-to-play programming game that’s fun for various ages and experience levels. Check out my full accessibility-focused review here! @plaidhatgames.bsky.social @valancedbreakfast.bsky.social

The Red Cathedral is one of my favorite small box Euros. But what about visual accessibility? See my review here!

Today on BGG News, Brian Chandler talks about his role as a freelance proofreader and accessibility reviewer for Stonemaier Games to reduce challenges for colorblind and low-vision players, using examples of cards from Wingspan and Wyrmspan: boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/157... —WEM

One of my favorite games of all time, Cartographers hits my flip-and-write sweet spot of puzzly decisions and smooth play. I reviewed and scored both main games + all 6 map packs! colorblindgames.com/2023/01/23/c...
