“i’ll vote for trying any day of the week” is exactly it. this is, essentially, all people want. not empty statements about “working tirelessly” but evidential effort, even if it fails.

I think what establishment democrats need to understand is that most of us hate them all very much for being so persistently useless and shitty in our time of desperation and it fills our hearts with hope and joy when someone who might not be those things beats them.

crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their consultants

Abraham Lincoln's Cooper Union speech had these guys nailed 150 years ago

My very strong sense is that the party leaders have been so proud of being the adults in the room for so long, they forgot that the job of adults isn't just to be correct. Like. If you are an adult in the room, it's your job to act decisively when some kid tries to light the room on fire

I've been playing Marvel Snap for a while now, but this Kid Omega thing has really obliterated my interest in the game. I was so excited to play it (destroy is my favorite deck), and having to choose between paying $100 for it and waiting another month has anti-excited me to the equivalent degree.

Ladies and gentlemen... the weekend. (also: you are important and are not alone 🧡)

MacKenzie Scott (American philanthropist and novelist), net worth $59.40 billion COULD BUY El Salvador 🇸🇻, nominal GDP $29.45 billion

End of an era. I always had high hopes for LOPSA (I was a charter member), and I was sad they never seemed to hit a stride.

OTD in 1822, a letter from Charles Babbage proposing the construction of a “Difference Engine” for the automated calculation of mathematical functions was read before the Royal Astronomical Society of London. #HistSTM 🐋🌱🧪🦫🦋

This is incredible

One of my pet theories is that zero percent interest is why engineer salaries were so high for so long, because companies had to compete with VCs poaching their engineers with ZIRP money. Now that it's mostly gone engineer salaries are going to be driven to nothing out of spite and resentment

a friend of mine shared this ai-generated "emotion wheel" and unfortunately i have been laughing my ass off at it for like 15 minutes now. today i am feeling Fnliinneon

elon and trump are meeting outside uniqlo on sunday 5pm. 3251 20th Ave, San Francisco, CA, 94132

I sat down with @sheabelsky.bsky.social for a chat about workplace communication for neurodivergent folks. Take a listen if that sounds interesting, if you want some more war stories from me, or if you have always wondered what the first computer I ever owned was.

You cannot run a society that lasts by asking victims to keep forgiving people who aren't sorry, will never take responsibility, and would do it all again if they had the chance

I gave a talk recently on turning neurodivergent challenges into assets in a technical role. Check it out! It's not too long and there's some fun war stories.

This thread is a fun ride

I think a company's culture is in the stories they tell: from leadership to employees, within teams, between teams. What events are remembered and passed down to new joiners? What heroic feats are celebrated? In-person, it's easy to just tell the stories; with remote, somebody has to write them down

I think this means the writing is on the wall for the Google antitrust case about payment for search placement and its appeals. Mozilla is going to get as lean as they can, as fast as they can.

I was reminded of this old gem today. "Does /dev/null support sharding?"

Please enjoy this stock photo the local CBS affiliate chose for a story about traffic this summer

the two big camps in dem politics right now are "just have some values and fight for them" and [smugly] "values? what are you, five?"

good question. i think my positive nature is way of BRAIN WIRING first, but also i have realized that art and expression thrives on gratitude AS WELL AS supports and grows gratitude in a feedback loop. once you start using it as fuel it will build, and i have been tapping into it for many years

🚨HOLY SHIT! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!🚨 STRANGE DAYS is streaming on Criterion Channel as part of their 3 By Bigalow collection. This movie is ALMOST NEVER available and slaps so hard it'll hurt your mama. A must see for any Sci-fi/Cyberpunk/Neo-Noir fan. Such a great fucking movie. LET'S FUCKING GOOOO!

I think it's broader than this. All learning is molding ourselves around a task, building new connections in our brain to make it better fit for that purpose. We are changing ourselves into someone who possesses that skill. Using AI skips the work, but it skips the change too, and then we never grow

Hah, this is adorable

No mother or child should die from a preventable cause. No generation should live in fear of deadly infectious diseases. And no one should be denied the chance to thrive because of where they were born. gatesnot.es/4m5pSc3
