👀 sweet. City Nerd in Auckland next week. @nerd4cities.bsky.social www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2025/02/21/q...

NOTHING can destroy a Cyber Truck….😎😏 #WorldBollardAssociation

So far this year, 16% of road deaths in NZ have been pedestrians and cyclists—yet walking and cycling make up only 1.6% of total distance traveled. This is an unacceptable level of danger for vulnerable road users.

Analysis: The rapid fracturing of American democratic institutions and conventions show just how important it is to preserve a dedication to democracy here.

I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.

Such a powerful quote by Donald Shoup; “It's unfair to have cities where parking is free for cars and housing is expensive for people” Some people don’t have money to feed their kids, because rent is too high. But at least cars can park for free. #schoollunches #nzpol

Council debating now on potential amendment to oppose reversals and ask minister to delay until more consultation etc councillive.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/live-stream/

Funny that Simeon's crusade against lower speeds might result in more traffic calming and speed bumps lol... if only it won't come at the cost of people getting hurt/dying

Soooo based on AT's responses at Council, ratepayers are spending half of approx $8million to blanket increase speed limits which will lead to more people dying. Oh without consultation. Because thats the law the government set...

something for the bluesky train nerds!

Can we be tough on this crime please: “Unfortunately, we’re still seeing some motorists ignoring our school crossings and are driving right through them.” at.govt.nz/about-us/new...

Me rn after getting this email this morning www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqnR...

Meanwhile, in Ireland:

Never forget that pedestrianised streets and squares, public transport, etc, were rarely "always there". In most cities they have only happened through concerted, sustained and determined effort to remove parked cars and moving traffic. See @thespinoff.bsky.social thespinoff.co.nz/society/03-1...

The more I've learnt about road safety and it's benefits and impacts, the more I am bewildered at the failings of politicians to enact change on it (and even reverse progress). In NZ it would save us 9 billion dollars a year in impacts if we dealt with road safety (WHICH WE CAN, ITS NOT THAT HARD)

This is a good article and an excellent example of how the current governments approach to speed limits is the one which is actually taking a 'blanket' approach and raising limits regardless of context. www.nzherald.co.nz/hawkes-bay-t...

+ video feature by tvnz (17min); www.tvnz.co.nz/news/news-in...

Highly highly recommend this report on cycling by tvnz, cuts through the culture war and disinformation from the government and others to actually look at the evidence and experience of people. www.tvnz.co.nz/news/news-in...

Your regular reminder that New Zealand already has the ability to rapidly and massively reduce climate-damaging pollution, and that if we did so, it would be a huge boost for the economy. Politicians are choosing not to do so because their supporters would lose money, not because it can't be done.

The Ministry of Transport’s former science advisor, Simon Kingham had meetings with the ministers every 4-6 weeks with the previous government These came to a stop when the new Goverement got elected and that when it came to advice, “they didn't listen at all”. www.1news.co.nz/2025/02/01/w...

we've changed the law so this kind of thing can never happen again! Next time the landlord won't have to make up an excuse

Oh look the media still continues to uncritically repeat this lie, from RNZ www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

As a reminder there were no 'blanket speed limit' reductions in New Zealand under Labour. In fact, they specifically chose an evidence based, community driven, and context dependent system. The only major group wanting blanket speed limit reductions were the NZ Police

FYI this reversal: www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa... Is continuing momentum towards a lethal legacy by this government, fueled by misinformation, ignoring evidence, and a lack of care for peoples lives www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2024/11/11/s...

Some mischief going on in Myers Park

Sunday Burrito in St Kevs arcade is 😍

I feel like with all the stuff happening atm in the world, more important than ever to get involved in local stuff.

Don't tell Trump but the reason New Zealand is erased from maps is because we still have the original atom that Ernest Rutherford split

May I never have to write about Simeon Brown and transport again... sorry health sector. I am optimistic about Chris Bishop, but will see what happens with the mess Simeon has left behind. www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2025/01/20/c...

Aucks!
