It's half term, which means I have a copy of Primary Reading Simplified to give away. Simply *repost* this post for your chance to win. I will choose a winner at random this Saturday (22nd February).

Been really enjoying this with my children at home… can’t wait to plan to use it in EYFS/KS1 at school! #Wonderblocks is amazing!

@jillberry102.bsky.social Hi Jill, hope you’re well. Nice to see you on here.

#UKEd #EduSky If you asked a colleague what constituted cognitive load in professional learning could they answer in ordinary language? Such as: too much, too new, too fast, too transient, only once and, it must be admitted (though Sweller's not there yet) too boring.

Post somebody you've been told you look like who you definitely don't look like.

It’s doubles day. 6.12.24 How often does this happen? How many times in history has this happened? When will it happen next? What about trebles day? Or squares day? Or…?

By far the most powerful way to increase primary pupils' chances of becoming capable, confident mathematicians is to ensure they can rapidly recall single-digit addition facts (and their related subtraction facts) and multiplication facts up to 10x10 (and related division facts). 🪡⬇️

8 years ago we stopped writing comments in pupils' books and moved to whole class feedback. Teacher workload and pupil outcomes improved dramatically as a result. We have never looked back. Very pleased to see our case study in @katejonesteach.bsky.social excellent new book.

Excited for #TDaPELondon? 🎙️In this week’s episode of #TDaPE @morgsedu.bsky.social and I explore the conference line-up and what lies in store in January! 2 tickets to the first person to DM me the number of times we say the word “interesting”🤦🏼‍♂️ #PrimaryEd 🍎: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...

One of the things that keeps me going back to Twitter is that I get fairly regular DMs on there asking me for advice about reading. Just to be clear: I am more than happy for people to DM on here for the same reason. Please repost this if you think this info might be useful to someone.

Really interesting new study on worked examples which underlines just how easy it is to get things wrong and end up in lethal mutation territory 🧵

This is a really exciting idea. Talking through what we’d do in given scenarios has been the highly of my NPQH so glad we are taking this useful, dialogue form of CPD further. Looking forward to seeing what the first scenario is! #GetReal

Today the children just wanted to chat about everything we saw and did - especially the cows and the “Robot on the bus that tells us where to go.” 💖

Feedback lessons from TV (via @‌teachertapp) theconversation.com/what-strictl... Having been at writing moderation tonight, I have now shared this great blog with colleagues as a way of bolstering our conversations on how to best give feedback. Great timing @teachertapp.bsky.social

Some useful advice here by @teacherhead.bsky.social on how to get good paired talk. I think I'd add 'pair first then square' - i.e. let them go with paired conversation then double up to share. It's less intimidating to share with another pair THEN with whole class. teacherhead.com/2024/04/10/g...

Excellent thinking in this blog from Jonathan. Well worth a read.

This week on #TDaPE, Jake Cowling explores lesson design using the principles of cognitive science & direct instruction. Planning lessons that stick. Jake will also be joining us at #TDaPELondon 🔥 🍎 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t... 🛜 open.spotify.com/episode/7ln2... #PrimaryEd #LessonDesign

🧵THREAD🧵 After the release of the “Use of teaching assistants in schools” in September, I have spent the last few weeks reading, internalising and reflecting on what this research from the DfE essentially tells us (with strengths & developments needed)

Looks like dreaded topic work has been happening in primary since at least the 80s:
