—something warm and firm collided with his back, and for an instant Emile knew the shock of an unsuspecting bird being pounced from the air.

Light flickered outward from where his palm had struck, dials and meters and holographic displays flickering to life across one of the consoles. Averse to triggering anything else, Emile pushed himself off, belatedly realizing that the vector of his trajectory pointed further up than he'd intended—

What started as a dramatic turn continued into an involuntary spin as his feet left the walkway, angular momentum carrying him onward. Throwing out a hand to stop himself, Emile slapped something firm, bringing his rotation to an awkward halt.

He spun back towards Cylus to gesture his use of air quotes, because even if Mother had tied their fortunes to Windfall through Uncle Adaire, Emile and Papa had always agreed that the very concept of a failed world made no sense—

“Right. The oceans were hardest hit.” Emile’s emotions flared inside him, buoyed by wine. “So Windfall, which at the time was still establishing its Planetary Reclamation Program by ‘maximizing yields’ from terraformed worlds that ‘failed’—"

“And then Terra nearly destroyed itself and needed somewhere to put all its fish,” Cylie interjected, bitterness edging his tone.

Much respect and no apology needed, I did ask! :) I'm just like, a decade or so out of date, slowly fossilizing

...I have been out of the MtG game far too long it seems, I was thinking just like, what colors he do 😅 but also love that you know your guy so well as to answer to a degree of specificity beyond the grasp of this very out of the loop casual player

Well that begs the question of what kind of MtG deck Danya runs...

The story’s also a tragedy. It warns you, at the beginning, in the title. Death comes early, & remains present throughout. The invading force Amvrosiy trains to combat is brutal, their atrocities cruel. Yet even as the story darkens, love & life still shine; reminders of what Amvrosiy fights for.

The romance filled me with such joy that I gotta get CAPSY: it’s BEAUTIFUL and PANSEXUAL and POLYAMOROUS and it’s got RIVALRY and SWORDS and TENDERNESS. Reading it made my heart happy. The sex is evocative and erotic, and the emotions around it are handled with deftness and care.

Our toothy-grinned trans hero, Amvrosiy, receives his name from a mythic figure familiar to many, depicted w/interest & nuance. She’s gravely threatening, but perceives & delights at our hero’s ferocity, gifting him with more than his name for his courage & her interest in the tension within him.

The voice is poetic, engaging, & welcoming, inviting us in w/a lush description of the place & people the story is about. The cadence is that of a storyteller, speaking to us who become the narrator’s ‘dear reader’. Ukrainian words are used w/o in-text explanation, deepening immersion & specificity.

AGREED, I am so glad it's already on its way, sailing ice-seaward~ I feel a little peace to think of it out there. meanwhile I'll just set my story (on Europa) up to age weirdly when the science gets a lovely update in 4 years, and you know what, that'll be fun in its own way
